The Thompson-Brittania 757 I flew in 2 weeks ago had a 1-prong system but I’ve seen a fair number of 2-prong ones over the years.

    It’s a disgusting money-making scheme IMO.

I’m surprised no-one has thought of charging for using the toilet yet…

For some reason the case of the passenger who was late for the doomed ValueJet flight in Florida years ago (and who apparently had a long battle with the ground staff to let him board the plane) has always stuck to my mind.

I bet he was glad they didn’t hold the plane and let him board!

VS seem pretty good to me across all class cabins. I can only speak from experience about economy but my boss flies upper class with them all the time and says he much prefers them to any other airline.

BA are very good with business and first class passengers, and usually adequate service to economy pax in my experience. I should add that I’ve never flown first class, and only Club Europe.

    Great pics!

By the way Fren, if you fancy an easy tenner you should send the G-BUSH registration picture to Private Eye. They’re bound to publish it. 😀

Im flying with Iberia next Thirsday and i am so excited about it.Ive flown them before Buissness class AGP-BCN-DUB.I dont know what aircraft flew the forst leg but the second leg was a 727.Im flying DUB-BCN-ALC with 55 minutes in Barcelona.Do Iberia hand out earphones or is the sound all around the cabin ?.All my flights are with A320 with A32S being one wahtever that will turn out to be.One was a MD80 but was changed.

The sound is provided through earphones. In theory they should hand out earphones (or sell them) but if I recall correctly the f/a’s didn’t offer them in our flight to BCN.

But to be honest the visuals on offer are truly awful. Years ago they used to offer a news bulletin in both English and Spanish but this last time it was just the very un-amusing ‘just for laughs’ candid camera programme, and some nature shots.

I wouldn’t say the planes are shabby Keltic. The fleet is young, our A320 in particular looked brand new, and even the older ones such as the MD88 we flew back in were well looked after- at least from the passenger’s point of view.

I’d agree that the service and the professionalism of the crew is below the standards you would expect for a flag carrier airline though.

And their move to charge economy passengers for meals is rather mean. I shouldn’t think they’re that cash-starved. Not if their new a/c acquisition rate is anything to go by.

Like Sandy I agree that it’d had to be an incredible coincidence for both a/c to crash within moments of each other.

As it’s been reported one of them issued a hijack alert so I have no doubt in my mind this was deliberate.

Chechynia elections are a few days away and the Russians were expecting ‘a spectacular’ apparently… 🙁

In the USA Today? I don’t think there’d be that many Airbus fans lurking there…

I think the 747 is going to be with us for many many years yet. I’d say at least 20 more as a pax a/c and another 10-15 more as cargo.

A different issue is when will the 747 production line be stopped. And the answer is who knows? If no next-generation/Adv. model is produced then my guess would be the 747-400 line will be stopped within 5 years. If Boeing does come up with a next-generation model then the line could be running for another 10-15 years easily.

    Anything could happen really…

How on earth do you know this?

The a380 is just as likely to be crammed with seats as any other. You do not have the right, nor the facts to say it will provide a better experience.

    A) heck, its not even in service yet!
    B) Aircraft interiors are purely the responsibility of the airline.

Calm down mate. I think I have the same ‘right’ to speculate about what the A380 experience will be like as you have to predict it the project might be a failure that will bring the whole of Airbus down, don’t I?

Isn’t the case that even with the maximum amount of seats it’s certified for (555) the A380-800 will have considerably more floor space available for passengers than any other airliner in existence?

Can’t remember where I saw it but at least one airline had suggested it was going to have fewer than 555 seats installed- which means even more space. I’d imagine Virgin will come up with something special as well.

As I said I don’t know whether economy passengers will be allowed access to any of the special features the a/c will likely have. But even if it’s only for premium and club passengers, the extra space/large bars/prayer room/reading room/ocean cruiser-like staircase or whatever else the airlines want to fit the A380s with, will surely be an extra incentive for some passengers to fly on that model if the option is available for the route they flying. During the first couple of years of service in particular, before the novelty wears off, I suspect a great many people might be going out of their way to fly the A380 if they can. Being as it is the most eagerly-awaited commercial airplane in decades and all that…

Not to mention on an A380. Provided that economy passangers are allowed access to at least some areas (say a bar, the gift shop, the main staircase area to stretch your legs and so on), flying ultra long-haul on an A380 is going to feel infinitely better than on any other current aircraft regardless of being non-stop or 1-stop.

Why not a bit of both? Does Quantas operate a mixed fleet already?

    Good news for everyone then.

So long as an aircraft manufacturer can achieve a net profit from any given project there’s no reason why it shouldn’t go ahead. A 747adv would be considerably cheaper than developing a whole new a/c so even at 100-150 orders it’d make sense for Boeing to go ahead.

It’d also be nice to see that such models as the A340-600, 747Avd. and a380 can actually coexist instead of destroying one another. That should be the case anyway, each aircraft covering a slightly different sector of the market.
