I’d imagine one must get a truly superb aurora borealis show when flying at night right across the North Pole…

In the first of those photographs the tail of the 747 looks too tall for the bridge and certain to strike it 😀 . Wide angle lens indeed…

But yes, like Steve says what a great point for photographers!

How so? These are claims made by a senior Indian government official, not Airbus.

One thing is lobbying for your country’s (or continent’s) industries, and another is making threats and warning, whether directly or indirectly, or consequences if your country’s company is not chosen. If that is indeed what has happened Airbus has all the grounds in the world to complain. An intervention by the WTO and sanctions against the US would not be out of order either.

Naturally if such threats took place they would have been made off the record so there is going to be little chance to prove them. But it wouldn’t be the first time the US has used such “persuasion” to get its way when dealing with other nations.

Sorry, you’re right. I’m getting all confused and I was thinking of the airside facilities.

I know the cafeteria at the end of T2 very well, being the place where I end up every time I fly from Madrid. Great big windows all around you. 🙂

The gate just beneath it seems always to be taken by IB A343 or A346 a/c isn’t it?

The only time I’ve flown business from Madrid I went to the OneWorld business lounge located one level up, and you get really great views from there.

How are the new terminals and runways coming along? They must be nearly finished now!

I can’t wait to see them in operation…

Airbus does not like to lose sales- who does? But if they are to worry about anything is the A350 market, not the A380. Airbus’ own sales estimates are for a 20-year period. I’d say they’re ahead of the game as things stand…

As for the gloomy-doomy forecast in the not-entirely-unbiased article from the not-terribly europhile Economist, that is certainly a rather pessimistic view. If we had seen similar end-of-the-world articles about Boeing one year ago, before they had sold any 787s and when Airbus was outselling them in most departments, people would have screamed foul louder than the Krakatoa eruption.

The fact is that the only negative aspect regarding Airbus is the loss of share in the mid-range, mid capacity market the 787 covers. The very-large aircraft market is largely theirs, the superb cash cow the A320 family is continues to bring in revenues, and even with the arrival of the 787 and A350, the A330 continues selling well.

Both companies’ fortunes go in cycles. Airbus will dominate in some periods and Boeing in others- as each company launches a new product that outdates the competition’s own model.

    That’s all, really.

I think those figures of 400 should be taken with a pinch of salt.

In anycase the A380 project is a long term one. Yes, it’d be great if it can break even even before first flight, but they should break even without a problem. Whether it is in 2, 3 or 6 years is another matter. But they should still be selling A380s in 15 years’ time at least, so there is not much of a question of whether they’re going to break even with the project.

    LOL!

Who do you fly for wysiwyg? Is it Virgin? I have to say I have seen some Virgin female cabin crew that would not be out of place on a catwalk. Wow! 😀
