This particular Vulcan isn’t a museum piece and never has she been. She was declared Cat 5 after an accident (scrap, basically) and was left there to suffer whatever was to become of her. Instead of bulldozing her she was repaired cosmetically by the RAF was gifted as a monument to represent the RAF’s presence at Goose Bay. Nobody has ever been inside her since by the look of it. I think her bomb blister is also riveted over as well.
The howl those engines make really do make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck!! I have been there the last 3 years and have no intention of ever missing another of her displays!! 😉
My heart sunk reading these posts! At least she’s still there, not for much longer though. Here is what an engineer said on the Vulcan to the Sky forum:
“I’ve heard now that nothing is being removed at the minute. Best we can do to find out is to stand and watch from the perimeter fence I reckon…”
You’d be quite correct in that assumption XL391, the items were removed last week.
As Smiler correctly stated, we at TVOC had a wish list of spares that we required from XM603 to help us along with XH558. This, as stated, was agreed with Woodford, and two TVOC engineers went up last week to remove these spares. These spares were mainly in the form of pipe clamps, ducting, relays and electrical panels etc. We will no doubt be needing a few more of this kind of item at a later date also.
This is nothing too unusual, indeed, many museum Vulcans have donated spares to XH558 and none of the parts recovered have altered XM603’s structural stability. They have unfortunately meant that XM603 will no longer be able to have electrical power applied to her though.
The fate of XM603 seems to be sealed, however, sad though it is, this will mean that the three remaining living, breathing examples of the Avro Vulcan will be able to stay that way for many more years to come.
🙁
She’s off to Brooklyn. See latest news at http://www.concordesst.com
Marham have a Victor, XH673 (privately owned), and a Tornado, unsure whether it’s an F or a GR though…
That looks like VX777’s cockpit, the second Vulcan B1 prototype (later fitted with the B2’s wing), not a B2 Dave. RATOG was considered for more power in the early B1’s IIRC until the Olympus 200/300 series engines came on stream. I have seen a picture of both Valiant and Victor using RATOG (very impressive) but never the Tin Triangle…
Low life scum. I would seriously hang the b*stards. 😡 😡 😡
I’ve been in a few beheadded Vulcans but never one with its **** end still intact. How many museums open theirs up now and how regularly??
I’m just reading it…again!!
There is nothing wrong with her structure. A bent elevon and inactive nose wheel steering. What a danger she must be then… Beaureaucratic nonsense. If you challenge them, they’ll say it’s to help 558….
What a thread!!!
Don’t worry about that Peppermint! Moggy’s probably upset because its pictures of a Vulcan!! :diablo: :diablo: :diablo:
I couldn’t care what colour she is, if it annoys people what colour she is just so long as she flies!! (And the fact that she will fly seems to have annoyed the usual suspects on here….) I don’t care where she goes upon retirement either, so long as she stays in one piece and still draws breath…
Any more news? 🙁
It’s like a bloody school playground on here!! Some SERIOUS growing up required. I wish all these snides would just wait until Friday…
