No, much as I hate to say it with them being my favourite of my favourite aircraft, I don’t think this will be the last one to go either. XM603 I think is the next one threatened with the axe… 🙁

It’s a shame they would’nt let you get your screwdriver out and just salvage that one little piece to make you and us feel better….

I didn’t even think to pick any small pieces up. As I say, I was right next to the pile and there were pieces absolutely everywhere, but I was just too dazed to do anything…

Peter, type in Blackpool News into Google, you should find something there i’d imagine. Its a shame nobody got anything like the starboard landing light when the wing was getting smashed to bits. I managed to get right next to her and there was a guy scavenging around before we all got chased by the scrappers, who were getting a wee bit flustered. I was just about to grab one of the oxygen bottles as well! I managed to fire off a few photos next to the devastation but I was in a complete daze to be perfectly honest. Bateson came out and gave his tuppence worth saying we would be in trouble and he got it straight in the neck from me and a few others before walking away with his tail between his legs. Even on the evening news, he turned her death into a big ******* media circus. I am not a fan of this guy at all. Or his missus. Had a bit of banter with her a few years ago as well. She was knocking on the window yesterday telling us to move away. She was duly ignored by everyone. To be honest, its only really sinking in now that she’s gone… I’m so glad I got a part of her…

Yes, the cockpit survived, but I can’t see many keen bidders. Instead of splitting it from the fuse carefully, they just hacked through the back of her by the intakes and then it simply dropped, radome first, to the ground. Apparently, they dropped it 3 times as well putting it on the wagon, as if its not in a bad enough state already…

By the way, whats WTG??!!

At least you admit it Kev! A few (maybe 10?) years ago, some of the guys at Blackpool approached Bateson with a proposal to clean her, paint her and even put floodlights in to illuminate her at night. He turned them down flat and, the worst thing, it wasn’t even going to cost him a penny, except maybe for a bit of electricity. I saw him today getting in one of his aircraft at the back of the Vulcan and had to give him a mouthful. I couldn’t resist….

I was given her port FOD cover today by the scrappers but I couldn’t get it in the bloody car!! So, I stashed it in a hedge and i’ve just been back to get it!! Just about fitted in a Ford Galaxy!! You don’t realise how big they are… 😮
