Southport. Except for the traffic wardens.. 😡 And is everyone talking about Woodchurch on the Wirral (I doubt)???

Personally, I have not spread any rumour – I have voiced an honestly held opinion, which may not match your own, but I am entitled to it!

You have indeed, Amen.
Why exactly won’t the displays be ‘as they were in service’ ?
This thread has prompted me to read again Tim Laming’s The Vulcan Story.
Chapter 8 is devoted to displaying the Vulcan and in it S/Ldr David Thomas describes in great detail how they went about it.
The in service g limits for the airframe were zero negative and +2 positive. The max they ever pulled was in the final 60 degree climb out and that never went beyond +1.8g.
The whole display used the vast amount of lift available and bucketloads of power to overcome gravity at low speeds rather than brute force applied to the airframe.Bearing in mind that 558 will have been subject to effectively a ground up rebuild by professional aerospace companies it will be in 100% servicable condition and S/Ldr Thomas and his colleages will operate the aircraft in no less a professional manner than before, so why should we see displays that are vastly diffrent to those we remember?
What would be the point of the whole effort if all we are treated to is a few passes staight up and down the flightline ? We, as enthusiasts, and Joe Public will rapidly (and rightly) become bored after a year of two. Whilst I do have gripes about them, I think even VTTS will have taken this into consideration from the outset.
Who said, or where did they read, that the displays would have to be any different? Or is it just the anti-558 crowd spreading any rumour they can to cast more doubt into the minds of supporters of 558 and VTTS?
…and a few others…
Since I joined this forum, the general concencus (I feel) is that people hate Vulcans. Why? 😡
If the Vulcan To The Sky campaign were as incompetent as some of you seem to think, how the hell did they obtain a HLF grant when no other restoration project to flying condition ever had before? Why is the rebuild being given manufacturer support, without which the CAA wouldn’t even give it the time of day?
How many restorations have been started by individuals or groups with no real funding or idea how long it will take? Some of these have even changed hands several times over decades before completion.
In today’s world historic aircraft operation is not a profitable business. Most owners don’t even get close to breaking even. The fact that 558 has got so far impresses the hell out of me. And if it does get back into the air, are you really going to look away and say “sorry, not interested”?
Andy, it’s justbecause they’re all a bunch of negative b*******! People on here have been all too quick to slag off the VTTS team for the work they have put in. It’s just typical of some people in this country who hate to see people triumph. It’ll all be forgotten about when she takes to the air. Fair enough, if the project fails, say what you want, in the meantime get behind it, even if you’ve not put any cash in.
I would rather stay positive and would like to think that things are now go, as opposed to slagging it off.
No, funding is still required.
I’d love to go over with my paintbrush… 😉
Good to see that the TSR2 is recieving some TLC. Get her flying!!!
Rest In Peace Larry
Any news Chaps?
I’ve seen quite a few piccies from the April 85 mass cull at Laarbruch that included many Lightnings and a Vulcan so someone must have been there to see either XN724 meet it’s fate or leave?
Do you have any pictures of this mass cull?
Me and ‘823
TSR 2, Vulcan, Lightning, Tomcat, Blackbird – Not sure which order…
