Not really a memory of a Vulcan as such – when I was about 10 or 11 my Dad worked in the Vulcan simulator section at RAF Waddington. Some Sunday afternoons he would take me on camp (we lived on the base) and we’d spend the afternoon flying the Vulcan simulator around.

Being fairly young I remember struggling to see out of the front and found the controls fairly heavy. I did get the captains seat though!

I do remember having to be so careful if I got too close to the ground otherwise it would damage the camera when it came in contact with the model ground. Also if you flew too high the camera got stuck at the top and you could never get down again and my dad had to go back into the model room and free the camera….

There was a camera of some sort in the Vulcan – see my post in the “interceptions” thread of the Modern Military forum. Its a vertical shot taken from a Vulcan at 41k feet

How about an interception of an interception of an interception? 😎

A 44 Sqdn Vulcan (the camera-ship obviously) has intercepted a US Navy F4, that has intercepted a Russian Bison, that has “intercepted” a US Navy Carrier

    Mission number 5123N, 24 Sept 1972 11:40 @ 40k feet

Just found this forum and registered – hence the gap in the posts.

This thread has particular interest to me as my father was a pilot with 267 Sqdn and flew the three dakotas mentioned.

He flew with Joe Neville. In fact in one of the first links of this thread http://www.centercomp.com/cgi-bin/dc3/story?1434 my father gets a mention (as does the email conversations I had with Joe).

I have some photos taken during that time and also all my fathers logbooks. I also have some photos of Joe smoking a rather large cigar.
