Hey, Neil, straight up…congratulations! You made it further than I ever did, I only managed 35 hours in Cessnas and Pipers, but managed to solo and keep myself in one piece….but it sounds like you might be able to find yourself a CAREER in aviation the way you’re going. Fine job, old boy….best to the wife and kid, hope to see you this summer, if things work out right!

I, for one, would not want to live in a world where warbirds did not fly, but could be seen and heard as a great example of what was once cutting edge technology….To see a Bearcat or Sea Fury today is to see the ultimate development of pure piston engined technology, to HEAR such planes is to be dumbfounded by their raw power and aesthetic beauty, the years of refinements that have been poured into them…and to think that we had come THAT far since 1903 (gaining roughly 100 miles an hour in speed every decade!) and the first flight of the Wright flyer is to be awstruck by the accomplishments of creative mankind….
I’ll stop going to airshows when the last of the Warbirds are grounded….I’ll die on the day that the last Corsair flies…luckily, there seem to be more and more joining the ranks of the flying, so my life is so far prolonged….to some folks’ chagrin!

Well….I simply have to counter that photo with this one….
Hmmmm…wildly interesting! Sounds like, when they get those shows up and going, it might be worth a jaunt down there to check it out and see the place. Good news!

Ummm…What’s a girlfriend?
Currently single,

Does anyone know, are they gonna keep flying these birds or are they permanently grounded? Getting a new-build Focke Wulf would suggest they might fly them….or so I’m hoping.
The Corsair, an early ‘birdcage’ variant (the only one extant), looks THOROUGHLY appropriate in VF-17 markings…nice job, TAM!

Ah, a thread where your opinion can get you in a WHOLE lot of trouble…let me DIVE right in…
Having been raised in Denver, a major city of 4 million, and having gone to school with all kinds of folks, I came to appreciate the humor and ways of black people and enjoy them more now than ever…I understand what Rap means to them, it is an art form (yes, ART) that is SUPPOSED to be abrasive to white folks (even though a lot of white folk are now picking up on it)…look what happened the last time black folks invented something of their own, Rhythym and blues music…white folks grabbed it up and tried to call it their own, or at least a bunch of white musicians started playing it and making TONS of money off of it while black artists got a mere pittance in comparison (folks like…oh, Elvis, the Stones, Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn). So, rap music and the accoutriments that go with it are SUPPOSED to **** white folks off while still remaining a BLACK art form, because…and let’s face it…very few hip white folks can even ATTEMPT to do white rap effectively (with the exception of Eminem and the Beastie Boys). When they tire of that (or the white devils figure out how to make a buck off of rap on a regular basis, black folks will come up with something new and exclusively theirs…until we find a way to ‘whiten’ that also…
Just my own bling bling…

Woof! That was an amazing piece of video, to see a plane of that size just dissappear into the trees like that…a few seconds of silence…and then a cloud of smoke and flame comes rolling up from the trees….wild stuff….
I have only ever been present at one air show accident with fatality, here in Denver about 1994/95 when an F-86 flew into a ditch while looping at low altitude…he misjudged his altitude and entered a shallow ditch…all we saw was him go into the ditch…then smoke and flame…lots of folks thought it was part of the show. My stepfather flew with the guy at United Airlines.

The ones I did’nt comment on show Bill Muszala in the cockpit of the Corsair he flew in the show (I believe it was Max Chapman’s Green and white F4U-4, the former N240CA, familiar to you guys in the UK)…All the shots of #5, Jim Read’s dash 5 model, show it being piloted by Dale Snodgrass, who made some EXCEPTIONAL low passes during the show….and the other photo shows some of the aces (including Bob McClurg, Boyington’s wingman, shown rather prominently in the center of the photo) signing autographs for some Corsair fans.

And last….for now…Steve Bakke’s F4U-5…
A mini Corsair gathering….
Dale Snodgrass doing some low stuff…
and more…
Commentary to follow…
