There’s some stuff on various NASA sites but not all are serviceable. Interesting that there is not much to be found online covering the post-WW2 Piper designers.
One little factoid I found. The Cherokee has a higher coefficient of drag that the C172, whilst the latter developes a higher L/D max than the former.
Yes ARNG is that colour!
Thing to do there Mike is to start Googling NACA and Piper. I know the same NACA wing applied to the Cub was used on the Aztec twin. Ultimately the PA28 series went from the constant chord slab wing to the tweaked wing as used on the Warrior.
Miles and miles better. I can even see the dew on the cobwebs hanging from the fence 😎
Just viewed a photo of G-ARHP on the CAA Register. I have seen this photo before and I think there may be a thread about it somewhere these parts…
edit: yup there is
Reducing photo size e.g. to 1024×768 helps and if your photo edit package allows it, don’t save the photo’s EXIF information with your edited file.
Seem to recall that Skyranger is Flylight’s from Sywell.
Slight quality problem on the photos – did you downmix them to 256 colours or something?
Nice one, see you there 🙂
AGXN’s restoration (featured in FLYER a few years back) looks pretty swish.
I also like G-AMTA’s body work (from air britain website). Fancy spats on this example of a J5 Aiglet.

VF512 (G-ARRX Auster 6a>in LAHARVE’s photos) and G-AIZU (5J1) followed us into Sandown last Sunday and again later into Popham. Are they based at Popham?
They were serving on Sunday and the barbie was being fired up when we left.
I’m not sure if we approve of that sort of thing around here 😉
You may…. 😀
G-AKWS Mk5a wearing AAC RT610 serial at PFA Rally, Kemble 2003 (superb weather!!).
I really love the panel on this airframe 😎
Couple or three Austers from PFA Rally 2002. One nice “Mk5a” identifiable, other two no reggies known. Can you ID them?
Shotteswell-based Terrier visiting Clacton September 2002 whilst I was doing my tailwheelc conversion on Super Cub, G-BIMM. The co-owner, a Coventry Electra pilot, was visiting his son doing a PPL on the same Cub. The Terrier pilot/father had done the same PPL tailwheel course 20/30 years prior.
G-ASDL, stored outside at Shotteswell at the time, was destroyed during storms about two years ago. Shame really, a very tidy example outside and inside, a radio, ADF and transponder. Very modern for an Auster!
Previously G-ARLN and here’s a photo
A flight in G-AJRB 19th May 2002, shortly before Rex Ford departed Sywell. Note the old hangars and lack of fence!! Also the grimacing moderator 😉 😉
Sadly ‘RB now without CofA and current registration, last seen at Norton, Northants stuck outdoors.
