“World’s Most Powerful Rail Gun Delivered to Navy”
Popular Mechanics | Erik Sofge | January 25, 2008
For true sci-fi fans, any mention of a real-world rail gun will draw an instant, slightly audible gasp. Instead of relying on chemical propellants — such as gunpowder — a rail gun uses magnetic “rails” to launch a solid, nonexplosive projectile at incredible speed. Theoretically, rail guns would be able to precisely strike targets at extreme ranges, and would negate the risks associated with carrying around tons of explosive ammo. More to the point, they’re cool-sounding, just like lasers.

(Seriously, one of my quests is, once per month, I check Japanese blogs and sites for any new photo of F-104J/DJ displayed/preserved in Japan, esp at military facilities, such as air bases and radar sites.
For example, I’m looking for a photo of the serial number on the canopy of the F-104J preserved at Gifu AB, Gifu Prefecture, because it’s different from the serial number on the fuselage and tail fin; but this F-104J is preserved in a hangar, not as a gate guard, thus it comes out only during an air show. Photos of PR tours to radar sites are understandably rare.)

The third series of this “Soreyuke! Josei Jieikan” series of figures, by Pit Road, have arrived in Hong Kong. The third series theme is JASDF.
Each figure is 3-4 inches tall, and comes witha profile card and a bonus part.
The bonus part is a landing gear, or tail fin, or wing, or whatever. Collect all the bonus parts to assemble a model of Blue Impulse Jr #6, with nose number #726.
I got two figures. The leftmost SAR helo pilot in flight suit, and the rightmost Blue Impulse mechanic in mechanic suit.
(Technically, they are models, and are on-topic.)
