Tuesday, 4 March 2008:
F-16A Block 20. 6706 (93-0807).
12th FS, 401st FW, ROCAF, based at Hua Lien AFB.
19:18, during night intercept training, missing and presumed crashed into sea, 42 NM southeast of Hua Lien. Hua Lien TACAN: 124 degrees.
One pilot MIA. Major TING Shih Pao.

18:50, took off for training, at Hua Lien AFB.
19:00, completed training item, and last communicated with control tower.

6706 delivered for duty on 17 August 1999. 1,075.5 flight hours. No maintenance problem in last three months.
(Some articles claimed it was a photo-recon F-16.)

Ting had 1,234.5 flight hours. 383 hours in F-16. Assigned to Hua Lien AFB for four years. Flew F-CK-1 and F-16. Recently qualified as two-aircraft element leader.
He was 34. Married, with one son (one year old in March). Parents already passed away. Second of four sons.

Feb. 19 (Bloomberg) — Lockheed Martin Corp. and Boeing Co., the world’s two largest defense companies, are in talks to sell fighter jets to Japan as U.S. military spending slows.

Lockheed is promoting its planned F-35 Lightning II as the Japanese government considers inviting bids, George Standridge, a vice president for the F-35 program, said at the Singapore Airshow

today. Boeing will offer its F-15 and F/A-18 Super Hornet when the Request For Proposal is issued, Joe Song, a vice- president for the Asia-Pacific region, said at the same show.

For seven years, JASDF C-130H co-pilot of 1st Yusou Koukuutai, JASDF, based at Komaki AB, Aichi Prefecture.
For four months, deployed to Kuwait.
On 6 February, qualified as main pilot.
Married with one son (3).

JASDF currently has 14 female pilots in airlift and SAR squadrons.

Wednesday, 20 February 2008:
11:30, first of four JASDF KC-767 arrived at Gifu AB, Gifu Prefecture.
Welcomed by protesters outside the AB.

Final preparation at Kawasaki Heavy Industries factory, beside Gifu AB.
Scheduled to transfer to JASDF on 29 February, and deploy to Komaki AB, Aichi Prefecture. (Any Miko chan at ceremony?)
Second KC-767 scheduled to arrive in early March.
22.3 billion Yen each.
