PLA guided-missile brigade, recon UAV.
Don’t know enough about UAVs to vis-ident it as a domestic UAV, or an Israeli Harpy. 8b
Will someone vis-ident the serial number of this UC-35? “67-something-2”?
And whether it’s USA/USAF/USMC/USN?

7 November 2007:
At Tsuiki AB, Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyuushuu (island), about 20 F-2 of 6th Hikoutai grounded since October 31, and about 20 F-15 of 304th Hikoutai grounded since November 5. Only about 10 T-4 continue training flights.
Normally, 26,000 take-offs and landings per year.
Scrambles against intruders diverted to F-4 at Nyuutabaru AB, Miyazaki Prefecture, Kyuushuu (island).
F-4 deployed from Naha AB, Okinawa Prefecture, to Hyakuri AB, Ibaraki Prefecture, near Toukyou.

At Komatsu AB, Ishikawa Prefecture, F-15 grounded, and Japan-US joint training delayed.
*OFF-TOPIC ALERT*
FYI, in Japan, F-2 is grounded after F-2 crash in Japan last week, and F-15 is grounded after F-15 crash in USA a few days ago, so JASDF alert duty reverts back to F-4.
Now is chance to invade Hokkaidou, or Taiwan. 8D

Conspiracy theory: accident F-2 flight control system sabotaged at that MHI factory.
In the past, on F-4s under maintenance, electric cables were cut.
On F-15s under maintenance, electric plugs were bent.

in
http://mainichi.jp/select/jiken/graph/20071031/index.html
the serial number is either “126” (43-8126) or “128” (43-8128), but based on the list at
http://www.f2-supporter.net/F2info/F2B/index.html
which is last updated on 2006.11.13, “128” is assigned to 3rd Hikoutai, based at Misawa AB, not to “4th Koukuudan, based at Matsushima AB” as reported in news articles.

] Anyone have details on the F-2B crash that happened recently?
See post #23 in this thread, scribbled by one of the usual suspects WRT military aviation accidents in Northeast Asia. {nudge, wink}
] but given the fire, they are quite lucky to be alive.
They are freaking lucky to be alive. They survived the first drop from about 50 m AGL, which broke off the nose cone, then the second bad bounce, then when the flaming Viper Zero stopped in the grass, they didn’t or hadn’t ejected; but the rear-seater, who was relatively lightly wounded, immediately helped the front-seater, who was relatively heavily wounded, to get out of town on foot, very fast.
(As I’m writing this, I haven’t figured out the serial number, which I think is visible on the right side, below the front seat, in some photos; but I’m guessing 43-8126.)
] have you ever considered starting an onlnie database for all these records?
Negative, as I already regularly e-mail such historic details to Websites that have on-line databases for military aviation accident records. 8D
F-2 Viper Zero
Wednesday, 31 October 2007:
F-2B.
Probably 21st Hikoutai, 4th Koukuudan, JASDF, based at Matsushima AB, Miyagi Prefecture.
About 9:13, during take off (south to north), from about 50 m AGL, suddenly pitched down, fell on runway, caught fire, pitched up, slid on runway for 400 m (scratches with depths 5-10 cm), skidded off runway, stopped in grass, west of runway, 300-400 m east of control tower, at Prefectural Nagoya AP (formerly Nagoya IAP), Toyoyama Town, Aichi Prefecture.
Two Mitsubishi Heavy Industries test pilots did not eject, and exited aircraft by themselves. Pilot Nagata Keiji (52) heavily wounded, co-pilot Mizushima Mitsuo (56) lightly wounded.
Nagata’s lungs injured and ribs cracked; hospitalised for up to two months.
Test flight for touch-and-go and flight above Japan Sea, after first maintenance in third year of active service, at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Komaki Minami factory beside airport.
Aircraft had 740 flight hours. Assembled at same factory in March 2004. First accepted by JASDF in 2004. Returned to same factory for maintenance on 21 May 2007.
Engine had about 1,000 hours, and made by Ishikawajima Harima Heavy Industries. On 3 October, dismounted from another F-2, and mounted on accident F-2.
Fire trucks extinguished fire after 30 minutes.
From 9:20, single runway (2,740 m) closed. Civilian flights cancelled, delayed, or diverted to Chuubu Kokusai Kuukou (Centrair IAP), Aichi Prefecture.
Pilots are retired JASDF pilots. Nagata has 5,796 flight hours. Mizushima has 6,302 flight hours.
For reference, serial numbers of F-2B, 21st Hikoutai, based at Matsushima AB:

Gifu AB air show. 50th anniversary. 2007.10.28.
According to the displayed aircraft list in the air show pamphlet, at
http://wie.air-nifty.com/blog/2007/10/2007_129a.html
the resident F-104J wasn’t in the list. 8(
(I was hoping someone took a photo of the serial number on the F-104J canopy frame, because it doesn’t match the serial number on its tail fin, as the canopy with the serial number that matches, is still installed on another preserved F-104J.
Gave me a reason to gawk at some Japanese air show photos posted in blogs anyway.)

I use another site to check USAF tail codes, but I don’t have the bookmark in this PC.

] This is what the game Air Combat 6 is doing with its Tail Code ‘GM’. Is Gracemaria the name of the ficticious base in the game?
I don’t have AC6, or any game console, but I like to gawk at virtual combat aircraft anyway. 8)
AFAIK, the AC series are shooting games with excellent graphics, not serious flight sims, as the fighters can carry tens to hundreds of missiles.
Gracemaria is either the air base or city/country name in AC6.
