JMSDF currently operates P-3C…

27 September 2007:
At Iruma AB, JASDF first “media training” for base commanders of Hyakuri AB and Iruma AB.
Simulated how to handle emergency press conference, and questions from media, in morning after accident.
Scenario: After training, while returning to base, fighter became missing. Two pilots killed, and bodies recovered from wreck.

Scheduled more media trainings at Misawa, Ichigaya, Komaki, Kasuga.

Friday, 5 October 2007:
JASDF announced accident report of T-400 collision on 6 July 2007.
Cause was pilots’ control mistake did not follow procedure.

Formation flight of two. #1 was instructor aircraft, flown by Captain. #2 was student aircraft.
#1 was left and above #2, flew to right and above #2, and lost sight of #2.
When lost sight of other aircraft, standard procedure was climb and dodge, for example.

#1 did not follow procedure, miscalculated height distance, approached student aircraft, and collided.
While #1 turned left, #1 flew out of its route. #1 right wing tip hit #2 left wing root.

Further, crew members who were aware position relation of the two aircraft, did not notify instructors.

Pilots did not violate regulations, and would not be punished.

“World In Conflict” is a new computer war game that comes out in 2007 September, and simulates WWIII in 1989. As I like to gawk at virtual military aircraft as much as at real military aircraft, I checked some screen caps of the game for serial numbers.

Does the real USA have a squadron (AH-64 or not) using an emblem with two playing cards?

On second thought, when the pilot enters and exits the cockpit, do the canards have to rotate to a vertical position?

IIRC, the Typhoon seems to have the canards at roughly the same location: below and beside the canopy, and I don’t think its pilot steps on the canard to enter/exit?
