F-15 fighter jet loses canopy near Okinawa; no injuries reported

An Air Force F-15 fighter jet lost its canopy Tuesday morning during routine training off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, the 18th Wing at Kadena Air Base said.

Two crew rescued.
According to witnesses, its tail rotor suddenly had a loud noise, and crashed.

According to USN Safety Centre, accident cause was tail rotor malfunction.
Engine shut down, and helicopter emergency landed by auto-rotation.
In JMSDF helicopter pilot’s opinion, possible cause was lubricant leaked from gear box of transmission that transmitted power to tail rotor.

February 12, morning, Colonel Matthew Dana, Misawa AB deputy commander, had meeting with Yoneda Kouichirou, Misawa City deputy mayor.
