An Air Force F-15 fighter jet lost its canopy Tuesday morning during routine training off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, the 18th Wing at Kadena Air Base said.

About 2 PM, crashed, at farm, Ba Yi Village, southeast of Gu Shi Town, Lin Wei District, Wei Nan City, Shaan Xi Province.

Two crew rescued.

According to witnesses, its tail rotor suddenly had a loud noise, and crashed.

2014/02/19:

According to USN Safety Centre, accident cause was tail rotor malfunction.
Engine shut down, and helicopter emergency landed by auto-rotation.

In JMSDF helicopter pilot’s opinion, possible cause was lubricant leaked from gear box of transmission that transmitted power to tail rotor.

Multiple JMSDF P-3C and US military aircraft.

5:00, Kanagawa Prefecture, Yamato City, NIPPI Corporation (Nippon Hikouki Kabushiki Kaisha) factory, hangar roof damaged by snow, ceiling collapsed, and damaged multiple JMSDF P-3C and US military aircraft.

Hangar is length 170 m by width 60 m.
In hangar, were 10 aircraft.
Six SDF aircraft and four US military aircraft.

11:30, 40 km east of Misawa City, above Pacific Ocean, engine and hydraulics system trouble, dropped one auxiliary fuel tank, and returned to base.
Dropped fuel tank was empty.

JCG, 2nd Regional HQ, advised local ships to beware of any drifting fuel tank.

February 12, morning, Colonel Matthew Dana, Misawa AB deputy commander, had meeting with Yoneda Kouichirou, Misawa City deputy mayor.

Blue Impulse, 11th Hikoutai, JASDF, based at Matsushima AB, Miyagi Prefecture.

11:24, above Pacific Ocean, 45 km southeast from Matsushima AB, collided mid-air.
After 10 minutes, returned to base.
11:28, #1 landed.
11:34, #2 landed.

#1 front part damaged.
Nose dented, and pitot tube broke.

#2 rear part damaged.
Left horizontal stabiliser damaged or missing.

#2 was behind and left of #1.
Speed 700-800 km/h.

Two of flight of four.
11:13, took off.

Three pilots not wounded.

Pilots are 30-40 years old.
Above 10 years flight time veterans.

#1 pilots are [front] Major Tomoda Kaname and [rear] Lieutenant Colonel Hidaka Daisaku.

#2 pilot is Captain Hidaka Akira.

[Two pilots have same family name.]

This year, schedule for 19 performances.
Three training missions per day.
Accident was second mission of today.
Further missions cancelled, for investigation.

17:07, above East China Sea, 180 km west of Okinawa Island, during air patrol, smoke in cabin.
Returned to Naha AB, and emergency landed.

No crew wounded.

9:20, took off, for training above Pacific Ocean, close to Aomori Prefecture.
10:20, landed.
After landing, could not find drag chute on aircraft, runway, or taxiway.

Yellow nylon drag chute contained in dark green bag.
Length, 75 cm.
Height, 40 cm.
Weight, 20 kg.
Width, 20 cm.

When landing, accident aircraft did not deploy drag chute.

All F-2 at same AB, grounded.

15:42, above Gifu Prefecture, Hakusan [not Shirayama] Mountain, during test flight, automatic control system trouble, and direction control was unstable.
Aborted flight plan, and landed at Gifu AB, Gifu Prefecture, at 16:05.

Aircraft not damaged.

Two crew not wounded.

Damaged metal fence around civilian house.
Also, damaged glass of civilian car, belonged to person who went there for air conditioner repair.

Matsushima AB functions not completely recovered.
By March, Blue Impulse hangar raising work, and rescue [aircraft?] hangar new construction, scheduled to complete.

Also, new control tower commission.
F-2 and pilots training now at Misawa AB, Aomori Prefecture, hopes to return to Matsushima AB this year.
