But that aircraft flew with that air force. . .
Incidentally, before and during WWII, the Imperial Jap military used US aircraft, and not as captured aircraft.
The IJN Shouwa L2D Type 0 transport plane, nicknamed Tabby by Allies, was a license-produced DC-3 / C-47 with domestic engines.
51 of up to 496 of them survived WWII.

(I was at a model shop last week during the Chinese New Year holidays, and saw an aircraft model box (by Hasegawa) with a familiar aircraft, but a Jap name, and thought it was a post-WWII import.
Another item I learnt from gawking at the model boxes was the Number 3 “Tako” air-to-air bomb (yes, bomb, not rocket) used by the Jap Zero fighters at Rabaul and Solomons.)

I’ll take a look at it later.

“Maybe it’s time to bring Cold War troops home”

The Current-Argus
A recent protest in Japan over the United States deploying F-117 [sic] Stealth fighters to Kadena Air Base got us thinking. Our first reaction was defensive: ”Oh yeah? How about you pick up a rifle and defend your own country because were getting tired of your ungrateful attitude.” Then we realized the protesters were right; there is no reason for U.S. troops to be in Japan.

“Female Pilot Becomes Flight Leader”
02-22-2007 18:05
By Jung Sung-ki
Staff Reporter
Capt. Park Ji-yeon, 28, of the 8th Fighter Wing based in Wonju, Kangwon Province, has become the first female flight leader in the Korean Air Force’s history, the Air Force said yesterday.
JASDF
Just checked the JASDF official site after the JDA became JMOD.
The Download Gallery (English) at
http://www.mod.go.jp/jasdf/en/gallery/index.html
has JASDF aircraft (F-2, &c) mouse pointers, screen savers, and wallpapers.
The Download Gallery (Japanese) at
http://www.mod.go.jp/jasdf/equipment/gallery/index.html
has an extra item: a monthly calendar wallpaper.
The Heisei 18 (2006) JASDF recruitment movie can be downloaded from
http://www.mod.go.jp/jasdf/cm/17/index17.htm
at
http://www.mod.go.jp/jasdf/cm/17/cm1.wmv
or
http://www.mod.go.jp/jasdf/cm/17/cm2.wmv
and it features only the F-15J.

On 21 February 2007, the JASDF at Hamamatsu AB, Nishiyama Town, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, received its new UH-60J SAR helicopters.
9th and 10th of 10 JASDF SAR squadrons to receive the new helicopters.
Nor Rafale?
Maybe Dassault is one of the three makers that didn’t answer the JMOD requests for proposals?
F-X

Looking for the next F-X, the F-4 replacement, 10 JASDF staff will visit the makers of the F-15FX, F/A-18, and Typhoon, from 25 April 2007, for 19 days.
Doesn’t mention the F-22 or F-35.
BTW, it’s obvious and reasonable, but just noticed the JDA site has updated its URL from
http://www.jda.go.jp/
to
http://www.mod.go.jp/
since 9 January 2007.

His name is Yu Ch’ang-Hyo.
Thanks much, dude, but wasn’t his family name transliterated as Woo or Wu?

The captions and related text articles apparently have the pilot’s name, but I can’t read Korean, thus can’t transliterate it. 8(
