(If it’s on Xin Hua Net, it must be true.)
10 January 2007:
Y-8 freighter. Call sign 9352.
PLAAF.
15:26, emergency landed at a PLAN base in Shang Hai City.
13:25, took off in Bei Jing City, and flew towards a PLAN base in Shang Hai City.
About 15:00, above Chang Zhou City, began to descend. Pilot Huang Jian Guo pulled back the throttles to “20 degrees position” to decelerate, but engine #1 throttle (of four throttles) stuck at 60 degrees position. Aircraft began to yaw to right.
(The pilot didn’t shut down engine #1, but the article doesn’t mention whether the pilot tried to vary the other throttles.)
By 15:14, ATCs cooperated to clear an emergency landing route for the aircraft.
15:19, the aircraft flew above Shang Hai City.
900 m above the runway, the aircraft lowered landing gear.
The pilot again pulled back the throttles… all throttles moved to the 20 degrees position, and the aircraft safely landed.
(And there was much rejoicing.)

claimed Japanese MOD FY 2007 budget allocates 1.5 billion Yen for domestic R&D of radar for use on high-altitude, long-endurance, long-range recon UAV, until 2010.
OTOH, also reviewing direct purchase of existing UAVs: Global Hawk for 5.7 billion Yen, or Predator for 0.8 billion Yen.
Article dated 2 January 2007.
Probably old news to the Jap Netters amongst these forums, but FYI, the F-22 unofficial Jap nickname is “Raputan”, or “Rap tan” in semi-English, especially amongst the gunji Wota (military geeks) in the 2ch (2 Channel) message threads.
“Rap” is short for Raptor.
“Tan” is a suffix applied to only girls, unlike the similar “chan” that applies to both girls and boys.

is an article in Chinese, dated 31 January 2007, about PLAAF J-6s. Four pages, with some vintage photos.
The text mentions a few air kills by PLAAF J-6s: ROCAF RF-101s, USAF BQM-147G Firebees, and USAF F-4C.

Trumpeter hasn’t made a model of a “New Chinese Attack Helo” yet, has it?
After all, Trumpeter mass-produced a model of a “New Chinese Jet Fighter” back in 2004, IIRC.
