Laser Weapon System On USS Dewey

The Laser Weapon System (LaWS) temporarily installed aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Dewey (DDG 105) in San Diego, Calif., is a technology demonstrator built by the Naval Sea Systems Command from commercial fiber solid state lasers, utilizing combination methods developed at the Naval Research Laboratory.
LaWS can be directed onto targets from the radar track obtained from a MK 15 Phalanx Close-In Weapon system or other targeting source.

11:32, rescued by ROCAF S-70C, and delivered to military hospital in Hsin Chu.
Front-seater was First Lieutenant ZHENG Yu Teng.
Year 100 (2011) Class, ROCAF Academy.
Total flight time: 290 hours.
Mirage flight time: four hours.
27 years old.
Not married.
Pilots complete F-5E training at 737th Wing at Tai Tung, and flight time achieves 250 hours, before they convert to F-16, IDF, or Mirage.
Back-seater was Lieutenant Colonel LIU Yong Xiang.
Year 87 (1998) Class, ROCAF Academy.
Total flight time: 1,745 hours.
38 years old.
Married.
9:54, departed Hsin Chu AB.
Last Mirage accident was 1992/11/14, emergency landing after bird strike.
Second-last F-16 crash was 2008 May.

BRISBANE, Australia, May 14 (UPI) — A ScanEagle unmanned aircraft system has been delivered to Japan by Australia’s Insitu Pacific for use by the country’s land self-defense force.

About 2:30 PM, during training flight, crashed into sea, southwest of Chia Yi.
Pilot ejected.
About 3:27 PM, rescued by ROCAF S-70C SAR helo, and returned to hospital at or near Chia Yi AB.

90th Class, ROCAF Academy.
Total flight time is about 360 hours.
F-16 flight time is about 60:55 hours.
Student/trainee pilot during conversion phase.

Wingman of flight of two.
Leader was Lieutenant-Colonel Zhang.

Lockheed Martin Demonstrates ADAM Ground-Based Laser System in Increasingly Complex Tests Against Free-Flying Rockets
SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 8, 2013 – Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] today announced that it has successfully demonstrated the Area Defense Anti-Munitions (ADAM) system in multiple tests against free-flying Qassam-like rocket targets.
The prototype laser system has destroyed eight small-caliber rocket targets in flight at a range of approximately 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) in tests conducted in March and April 2013.

Pilot was LU Jian Jun.

6:40 AM, collided with power lines, and crashed at a wheat farm, at or near Si He Village, Jiang Guan Tun, Liao Cheng City, Shan Dong Province.
Crew and/or passengers possibly wounded.
Power loss in nearby counties for 2+ hours.
Also, power loss disabled factories and pumping stations, and consequently caused water loss.
By afternoon, tens of militia blockaded access to crash site.

8:45 AM, at Jia Dong bombing range, Ping Tung County, during bombing training, practice bomb landed inside range, bounced, and landed outside range, in a civilian mango farm.
Damaged one tree and water pipe.
Local police contacted ROCAF.
ROCAF investigated damage, and agreed to compensate.
