A MADCAP amateur filmmaker has created a sixty second homage to classic 80s movie Top Gun — after blagging a real fighter jet from the US air force.

Mark Wong, 35, of Cherry Hinton, Cambridge, made Top Gun Done in 60 Seconds on a shoestring budget with the help of friends at the US airbase RAF Lakenheath.

15 February 2010:
JMOD formally informs Ayase and Yamato Cities that by late 2011, two JMSDF P-1 will base at Atsugi JMSDF AB, Kanagawa Prefecture, to replace P-3C.
From 2010, related facilities will add to Atsugi AB. Crew’s simulation facility, training lecture hall in now empty area east of runway, others.
In 2012, two additional P-1 will base at Atsugi AB.

This new series of Jap 1/144 pre-painted jet fighter models include a Mirage 2000 of 11th Group, 499th Composite Wing, ROCAF.
Don’t know the serial number on its fuselage though.

Fiscal year 2009 budget had fund for one aircraft. Winner price is 208,823,793 Yen, without tax, per aircraft.

Rivals are MD500E by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and Schweizer 333M by Air Japan.

18:00, emergency landed at Kadena AB, Okinawa Prefecture.
Local newspapers claimed it was flying from Guam to Singapore for air show, and could not aerial refuel.

On 8 February, 10:30, departed Kadena AB, and returned to Guam.

Mostly a caution light lit up, the pilot declared an emergency, and RTB.

9 February 2010:
UAV.
TRDI, JMOD, at Ioujima AB, Ioujima Island.
9:45, during test flight, remote-controlled by F-15 pilot, and separated from F-15.
9:50, UAV engine stopped, pilot checked no ship was near, and crashed UAV into ocean, 155 km north-northwest of Ioujima.
Height, 1.6 m. Length, 5.2 m. Width, 2.5 m.

UAV development since fiscal year 04. Until fiscal year 09, development funding, 10.3 billion Yen for four UAV.
800 million Yen for one UAV.

“Taiwan says to buy military helicopters from Europe”

TAIPEI (Reuters) – Taiwan said on Friday it would buy military helicopters from a European manufacturer, a move that could ignite China’s anger toward Europe following a storm over U.S. arms sales to the island that Beijing claims as its own.

The air force will buy EC-225 search-and-rescue helicopters, defence ministry spokesman Martin Yu said without offering details.

I knew some F-16s had gold-tinted canopies. OTOH, seems on the two-seaters, only the front canopy is gold-tinted?

According to the Kadena town assembly, from 1972 to 2008 December, in Okinawa Prefecture, were 487 US military aircraft accidents.
323 accidents (66%) happened at Kadena AB.
133 accidents (27.3%) happened outside Kadena AB.
12 accidents (2.5%) happened at Futenma AB.

Sorted by aircraft types, Kadena-based F-15s had 168 accidents.
Kadena-based KC-135s had 36 accidents.
Futenma-based CH-46s had 28 accidents.
