“Rebels ‘shoot down spy plane'”
29/08/2008 11:30 – (SA)
Khartoum – Darfur rebels said they shot down an unmanned spy plane over the war-torn region on Thursday, saying the Sudanese government was using it to track their positions.
A spokesperson for the Sudanese army said an unmanned plane had made an emergency landing in the area. “It could have been shot down,” he said.
The rebel Sudan Liberation Army’s Unity faction said a patrol spotted a drone at about 17:40 (02:40 GMT) in the central mountainous Jabel Marra area and shot it down with an anti-aircraft gun.
Harir said the fighters saw *Chinese* writing on the body of the aircraft. “It is *Chinese* made. The government want to spy out our positions”.
All “belligerent parties” in the five-year Darfur conflict, including Khartoum and rebel groups, are under a United Nations arms embargo. But rights groups have regularly accused *China* of arming Sudanese troops.

] from my point of view the most beautiful chinese aircraft i`ve ever seen
But IMO that’s because all other Chinese military aircraft are ugly; maybe except the PLAAF P-51, which isn’t a Chinese aircraft of Chinese origin.

Announced on 6 September 2008: by end of next year, 2009, first UAV helicopter unit of JGSDF will station at Imadu JGSDF Base, Imadu Town, Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture.
About 30 members. Four UAV helicopters, and support vehicles.
Activity covers western Honshuu and Shikoku areas.
Same base already has 3rd and 10th Tank Battalions, and other units. About 760 members.
Since March 2008, has a new anti-terror intelligence-gathering unit. About 50 members, and vehicles.
The city clearly cheers the increase in soldiers at the base, their effect on the local economy, and the increase in JGSDF-related funding from the national government.
[In other words: money.]
