About 9 AM, after training, should’ve landed at Kang Shan AB, Kao Hsiung County, for Kang Shan ROCAF officers academy air show at Kang Shan AB on 30 August; but touched down and almost landed at Zuo Ying ROCN AB, Kao Hsiung County, 16 km away.
Realised mistake, aborted landing, pulled up, and returned to Kang Shan AB. Damaged lights on Zuo Ying ROCN AB runway.
Aircraft lightly damaged.
Two pilots grounded for investigation. As Kang Shan ROCAF officers academy graduates, they should be familiar with Kang Shan AB and vicinity.
Kang Shan AB has 7,500′ runway for jet aircraft. Zuo Ying ROCN AB has 3,500′ runway for heloes only. The IDF could’ve overrun.
Kao Hsiung ATC allowed pilot for visual landing, but pilot mistook Zuo Ying ROCN AB as Kang Shan AB.
