ITV Sunday 9pm
Just a reminder that there is an hour drama re-enactment of the Greeks planespotters’ dilema on Sunday at 9pm on ITV. I just hope that ITV helped them recover their losses.
As I bored you all with before, I have original woodwork from 865 with traces of the blue on it. Maybe it is just me, but it is a tad darker than the profile pix Albert has posted. The woodwork was at CockpitFest last year and I will take some (tho’ off the cockpit) this year if anyone wishes to see it.
I have a Corgi model and am well happy…..I have ordered the AB910 model an am sure I will be happy with that too!!!
If you say it should be slightly ‘darker’ than the profile, why are you happy with the Corgi model which is LIGHTER than the profiles???
Just out of curiousity, how many races did the plane participate in? I see we got three different race# here. Did it win any races?
T J
Interesting question, not quite sure? All I know is that it participated in the 1950 and ’51 races, but not sure about the third. Don’t think it won any, or we would know that fact.
XH672 flashback!
Here is a shot I took of XH672 refuelling a 12 Squadron Tornado during it’s press farewell photocall in September 1993. Shot was taken from an open para door on a Hercules.
Hurricane G-AMAU
There has been a lot of debate about the authenticity of the colour of the Corgi model of this and I am most surprised that no one has yet to post a COLOUR photograph of it, considering it lasted in this scheme until 1960.
Anyway, here are some very accurate profiles showing the CORRECT colour blue and all the marking variations that G-AMAU wore! This is as good as you are going to get. 😉
Looks nice…aren’t there some ‘Day Glo’ orange stripes missing????
This is how she looked when first converted to a TT.35. The dayglo stripes were a product of the early ’60s and were not added until the last few years of service.
Who (which “hard” source) can confirm that it was the “XV179”? And if there is so which kind of C-130K was the mentioned Herc, a C1 or a C3?
New AFM confirms it was C-130K C.1 XV179. Even more sad, as this was the second oldest RAF Herk still in service and was one of the few ‘all green’ ones used by 47(SF) Squadron with ‘lumps’ on the rear fuselage.
..I would if I was a young man (boom, boom! 😉 )
Grumman Albatross…of course, followed by a Spitfire and Kermit Weeks’ Short Sunderland.
That’s be Air Atlantique’s G-AIDL, which in 1996 was operated by Caernarfon Air World. Simple bit of detective work – did a ‘Google’ search on ‘Fresson Trust Dragon Rapide’ and found only one site complete with photo! The Rapide is currently based at Coventry.
Ditto to Iceland also! Heard she will be repainted as one of the original aircraft operated by Icelandair.
And in his defence he has been busy fighting with Venezuelan guerillas recently.
Mmmmm, oooh, Betty, you’re giving my secrets away!
Ah Mr Ross, long time no see. Where ya been?
Who dat wid the noo avateur? Why tis t’old wizard hiself! Do we no longer want to do air-to-air with a Sea Fury for food, then?
Cheers Albert (do watch the threads theres a good chap 🙂 )
Actually, I did see the other one, but was so impressed I thought it deserved TWO threads! 😉
Lovely stuff, but what’s all that ‘blue stuff’ above the aircraft? Where are the clouds?? Ooops, forgot this is not UK!!
