Tom.
Ok, aviation related.
Safety concerns with certain airlines (or certain aircraft).
No British aviation industry to speak of.
Airlines becoming bankrupt.
Airline staff laid off.
Terrorism, or the threat of it.
It’s still as ugly as sin.
No hot meals for danairboy.
Dirty windows? Do they matter more than any of the above? (With the possible exception of danairboy’s meals) or not?
This is not an aircraft to be mourned. It was a failure. Britain and France built it at enormous cost and sold them to BA for a £1 each. Why? Nobody else wanted them. It catered only for those who could afford £5,000 for a return trip across the Atlantic. It was barred from overflying most areas of the world. A true failure, in every sense of the word.
I’ll upset Wys here, even the ‘glider with 5 APU’s’ has been more successful.
regards,
kev35 (Apologies for upsetting anyone with the previous post)
So was the Hughes ‘Spruce Goose’ a failure, but that is preserved!
Yes, in one way Concorde was a failure, but it was a milestone in aviation history being the first passenger supersonic airliner to enter service. It’s an icon and a unique design and we should still be proud that the technology was developed to enable it to happen. If we’re going to preserve it for future generations to see, we must spend a little money on looking after the preserved examples (and that doesn’t mean throwing money at it to try and get it in the air again 🙁 ) Today’s dirt stains are tomorrow’s rust!
Here is T.55 U-1222 registered as N23105, which is marked as WB188. N23105 is owned by Ten Air and based at the Anoka County airport in Blaine, MN. The large hangar in the background is C&P, home of the P-82E(sorry never been inside, and they don’t allow photos).
YUK! It beats me why some warbird owners make a half-hearted attempt at painting their aircraft in military markings without any thought to the real markings the aircraft carried, let alone putting the serial number of the red Hunter record-breaker on it! Yes, I know it’s their aircraft and they can paint it how they want, but to my mind you either paint it as authentically as you can, researched from photos, or you don’t bother and paint it in a very smart civilian scheme. Anyone else got any thoughts about this?
Hi Albert Ross
The reason there’s been nothing done on the Cranweel in 10 years is because our intension is to show the kind of construction that was used way back then. Resently though the Board has been toying with having restoration cover half of it and leave the rest bare 😮
Gerry
Oh thanks for that, I was beginning to think you guys were slacking! Seriously though, that’s a good idea, as the RAF Museum at Hendon have done that to their Bristol Fighter and Westland Wallace – one side covered and one side open. Since my visit and article, I am truly in awe at the work you have put in and I really take my hat off to you guys! 😉
Untill very recently (1990’s) the Swiss airforce operated vampires, is this correct? And what happened to them?
Absolutely right, in fact the Swiss Air Force was the last military operator in the world. All were retired in 1990 and here are all the two-seaters at Sion on 23 March 1991 up for auction. Most of them went to warbird collectors and are still flying around the world and some to museums.
Its Airbus they want to talk to.
Waste of time protesting or talking to either!

Bulldogs
…and a Bulldog from Nigeria (check out the L-29 Delphins and MiG-21s in the background!) and Kenya.
Before sarcasm sets in, I would like to point out that the trip was arranged and paid for before I was suddenly made redundant without warning. I then just had to grin and bear it!
No offence, just jealously! You obviously deserved that trip and made a good job of it. Hope you get sorted out soon.
Here she was in August – Albert, you’re gradually stealing my thunder – I want to put threads up for these museums later!
However if you find me a different job than sitting around writing captions and posting threads, I’ll forgive you – I’m unemployed and desperately seeking work, no kidding!
Sorry! Looks like they have done very little to the CLA.4 in ten years, but I’ll forgive them after seeing the Mossie and Anson! Wish I was unemployed – then perhaps I could afford to go on a fantastic Canadian trip as that! 🙁
There is an equally fantastic Ian Allan shop in the centre of Cardiff also!

Just been over to the ConcordeSST website – not visited there for awhile, so i thought i would check out any goings on.
Seems that a group that was wanting people to sign their petition to get concorde airbourne again in a heritage role, have now reached thier goal of 20,000 signatures! and this petition will be passed to parliament on the 22nd October – so the best of luck to them there! 🙂
Also, came across this picture of G-BOAD in New York – 😮 truely terrible!
News on there now also suggesting that Concorde Delta Golf (G-BBDG) at brooklands will hopefully be open to the public for viewing by next Summer. Im hopefully going to Brooklands in a few weeks time with T5 and Mark L, will be nice to see and here about the BBDG goings on and futur plans.
It doesn’t ‘BOAD well for Concorde! If they can’t even wipe off the rain stains from below the windows now, it’s goinmg to deteriotate fast! 🙁

Admiral’s Barge
Ah, those were the days… when Yeovilton had shows with lots of goodies and in lovely warm sunshine, like this Admiral’s Barge Sea Vampire T.22, XG775, in the static park there on 9 September 1967….mmmm, tasty! 😉
Alberta Aviation Museum
If that’s the same Anson, that is absolutely incredible! Here is my photo of it in 1993, as well as how the Mosquito looked. I wrote a two-page article in the July 1993 issue of “Aeroplane Monthly” on this fledgling museum and asked for volunteers and donations…looks like it worked! Also, here is the Cranfield CLA.4 – is this finished and on display??
