James, how could you leave this sinking ship?? 🙁 Have a good time and as you say you are going for ‘a couple of years’, does that mean you are coming back?? No doubt, you will be back on the Forum when you get settled out there…or down there, I should say. Take care my friend!

Another trademark Duxford display with something for everyone, including the FDSC…!!
The finale was awesome and the services put on some great displays however the Sea Fury had to abort its slot unfortunately. A great end to the 2004 season but dont forget next Sunday 17 October and the excellent HAA symposium at Hendon with a fascinating collection of speakers plus the chance to look round that world beating museum.
    Cheers,

    …I’ll bring my torch 😮

Certainly did! Here are the Mosquito, Norseman and the Ventura rebuild (Ventura Memorial Flight Association project), progressing slowly but surely.

I can’t believe how much hard work has been put into that Mossie in the Alberta Aviation Museum I was there in 1993 and it was just a wooden fuselage hulk, stripped down to bare wood with the wings stored elsewhere.
Outside were two wrecks of all-yellow RCAF Ansons. Were they still there, or are they doing anything with them?

    Canadian trip

What A fabulous trip Peter. I read somewhere that the Martin Mars had been retired…obviously not! Many thanks for sharing.

I would guess that as the Stearman is grounded and in a museum, the civilian registration has been officially cancelled and can be reallocated to another airworthy aircraft. If the Stearman was made airworthy, then it would have to be re-registered. Only a theory?

The blue aircraft appears to be a Rearwin Sportster 8500 and the helicopter a Hughes 269, but not sure about either.

    Acrojets

Okay, here is my contribuition to this F-80 thread – the “Acrojets” aerobatic team from the Fighter School at Williams AFB. Az.

    Enjoy!

Oh wow! I was there in 1993 and all this lot was stored in a dark hangar then, with those unrestored outside exposed to the elements. This is now much better!

Thank you, Albert, I just hope the other information (taken from “DH Vampire – The Complete History” by David Watkins) is correct! Especially the part about Paul Mantz!

Yep, that’s all correct. Somewhere I have a b/w photo of this same aircraft painted white and with its civil registration taken somewhere in the States. If I can dig it out, I’ll post it.

    RCAF Vampire

The bat markings on that RCAF Vampire are of No.442 ‘City of Vancouver’ Squadron, Royal Canadian Auxiliary Air Force in 1954.

Sorry guys, that’s the only shot I have of the Ki-100 in that scheme. I think shortly afterwards they realised this scheme was only applied to a Ki-61 Hein and they repainted in the green scheme for the move to Cosford but it was given the number ’24’ so don’t know if that is significant.

    Woody,

Hendon and Canada respectively as stated.

Here are a couple of ‘deathly dull side on static shots’.

    Mark

Not ‘deathly dull side-on static shots’ at all. Many photographers would give their hind teeth to take such shots of the RAF Museum’s today in such conditions. I was there at Abingdon in June 1968 and shot absolutely every aircraft like this in colour and in perfect blue skies. When I explore the gloom at Hendon, I am so glad I have those shots!

    Mark,

Where was the photo taken? I’m sure I’ve seen a restored Do 335 online somewhere.

    Thanks for the photo!

    Todd

Here is that Do-335 taken ten years later at Oberpfaffenhofen in September 1982, beautifully restored and guess now at NASM.

Hmmm… that would be difficult. The Indian people are very proud of AI’s livery. When a new Landor designed livery was introduced in the late 80s/early 90s to replace the current livery, public annoyance was so great that the old livery was re-introduced.

Here, here, the classic AI livery is superb – just think of all those arches painted on a 777
