Anyone want any more shots from the Queens Silver Jubilee Air Show at White Waltham?

They’re still there, as I don’t think they have made the Berlin Airlift film yet. A DC-3 is joining them from the USA early next year, possibly to be included in the filming.

The former Shuttleworth flyer? Was it grounded then?

    Flood

Flood, you’re getting confused with G-AOBU which used to be owned by the Shuttleworth Collection but kept at Loughborough University. It was then made airworthy and now flies with Kennet Aviation from North Weald as ‘XD693’. The Cosford JP T.1 is XD674 and I must admit I didn’t see it there last time and think it is hidden away ‘in store’ there somewhere, due to lack of space.

Cheers Albert Ross, as you can see it is the right way around now.
Singapore in 1967 is what my dad wrote on the slide.

A few more Brittanias on the Island of Gan in the Indian Ocean in 1967

Great stuff! I think the shot of the Britannia with the freight door open is earlier, as the lower fuselage and wings are silver and they painted them grey around 1964-65. Also, all shots must have been taken before 1st August 1967 as that’s the date when ‘Transport Command’ became ‘Air Support Command’.

Albert.. have you got any pictures with ATC Cadets stood in the way, as one of them is probably me!! 😀 still remember the VC10

    Neil.

Sorry, I got very frustrated by ATC cadets walking up and down getting in the way of my photos, so had to be patient until they (you?) got out of the way! No disrespect, but I will not take photos with people in front, unless there is a reason for them to be in the photo. The shot of Sally-B shows a good low-level air show action shot, hence the inclusion of people.
I have looked into my archives and shock of shocks – I DID photograph the Tiger Moths with ATC cadets in the picture (must have had a weak moment!) Is that YOU there? The Tiger Moth is T6553/G-APIG (nothing personal!)

Also, here is the VC-10 trying to do a ‘touch-and-go’ at White Waltham and the ill-fated Supermarine S-5 replica ‘N220’ (G-BDFF) which got written off on 23 Sept 1982 at Thorpe Park, I believe.

    Enjoy!

Interestingly, the Macchi M.39 was brought to England inside an Italian AF C-130 in 1982 and was on display at Calshot during the Schneider Trophy Anniversary show.

Oh very interesting. Can we have a location and date please? Would guess Seletar around 1966? By the way, you’ve scanned the Britannia slide the wrong way round – freight door opened on the left!

This has been done several times…
    Here was mine from April:

    Flood

Yes, we all know! But that was 6 months ago, so time to have another ‘dig’ at the RAF Museum about the lighting, until they do something about it!

Queens Silver Jubilee show at White Waltham in 1977 was my first.

This was the one with the BA Vc10 hedge hopping, will never forget that display.

Dotn suppose anyone has a list of aircraft that appeared? My pictures are long lost and the memory is going that way too

Don’t have a list, but have photos of everything! This was Don Bullock showing off in ‘Sally B’ at the White Waltham show. Is that you in the front?

Does anyone know anything about the Egyptian Air Force having an aerobatic team of Alpha Jets?

    A C-130 from Jordan.
Fairly recent pic, taken in June by a French spotter.

Certainly not ‘rare’! In UK, we get fed up seeing this one (or ‘345’ or ‘346’) at Fairford EVERY YEAR for the Royal International Air Tattoo. These aircraft have also been VERY common visitors to RAF Lyneham for 30 years!

    Hendon

Where do you want to start? Okay, here are half a dozen from my visit to Hendon last December, the day after Milestones of Flight opened.

CFS Sycamore, Bulldog, Tempest TT.5, DH.9, Tempest, P-51D & general view in Milestones of Flight Hall.

    Enjoy!

Super shots Mike. Lightning looks good in there for photography. Shame our museums haven’t got their act together, with the S-6B collecting dust in the gloomy Science Museum and the S-6A in the Southampton Hall of Aviation. Put them together with the replica of the prototype Spitfire in a well-lit building and we could do the same!

    Very lovely indeed, Mike.

You have an incredibly understanding wife if she doesn’t mind being dragged around air museums during a romantic holiday in Italy.

I just wish we could get photos like this in the Science Museum.

    Rob

It’s called ‘compromise’ Robbo! My wife doesn’t mind being dragged round aviation museums on holiday, providing I don’t mind being bored by the pool one day, or going shopping!
