Nope, didn’t miss it as I e.mailed the BBC to ask when it was being televised and they actually gave me the date! A good 10 minutes of coverage there.
Guys, can anyone please enlighten me to what’s happening with G-ACSS? Is the intention still to return it to the skies one day? I appreciate other projects may be taking priority at the moment. IIRC there was some work and then some more work carried out following the last incident.
Any info much appreciated. My brother and best mate, not that much into aviation, always remember just the one aeroplane at Shuttleworth and ask when they can see it fly. Clearly something red, curvy and that good-looking sticks in the mind.
I saw G-ACSS at Old Warden three weeks ago and, yes, the intention is to fly her again. Engines were stripped down as was much of the fuselage, but with so many projects requiring attention, I guess Shuttleworth engineers have got their work cut out. The Spitfire is currently engineless, with its Merlin being overhauled and the SE-5A is almost unrecognisable, being stripped back to basics. They are rebuilding a Fieseler Storch and the Gladiator and Lysander have only just reflown again, so I guess that the Comet just has to wait its turn!
G222 sounds possible.
The start of the F27 display where he hit the smoke button on the ground whilst running up to max power before letting off the brakes, emerging from the smoke to get airborne seconds later, to then pull the gear and remain about 2 metres off the runway for its full length before pulling up hard into a wingover is forever ingrained on my memory.
But he never did roll it, so my vote still goes to the Italians.

….ah, the memories……

Just a reminder, there will be a great line up at Shuttleworth on the 3rd of June, with a repeat of last years Navy formation, plus two. In addition to the already great resident aircraft, the Sea Hurricane is scheduled to team up with the TFC’s Corsair and Martlet/Wildcat, Kennet Aviation’s Seafire and Skyraider, and the Royal Navy’s Sea Fury. Should be a first for that grouping. The BBMF’s Lancaster is down for a complete show which should be better than last year when it was only supposed to do one pass (but did many!). Please get the word out and fingers crossed for some sunshine.
What about the Sea Hawk?
one word gentlemen….
BURGERS!!!!!:D
..washed down with cans of iced cold MOUNTAIN DEW, followed by hot donuts(must spell it the American way!).
Lindsay Peacock getting arrested for using a stepladder to photograph the SR-71…oh such wonderful memories!
Er, wrong Forum I think! 😮 Try ‘DRIVEPAST’ 😀
1)Getting to know the Red Arrows pilots when they flew Gnats at Kemble and being offered a flight with them, only to turn up and be told there had been a crash and the MoD had banned passengers in the back seats!
2) During filming of “Piece of Cake” at South Cerney and being offered a flight by the pilot of the B-25 Mitchell camera ship, only to be told by the Director there was no room for the camera crew + me! (there was LOADS of room!)
Like several posters here, I agree that the Nikon Coolscan V-ED is superb and I am extremely pleased with it. However, you need to be quick as the manufacturers reckon that any slide shooters still left will have already got a scanner to transfer their years of shooting to digital and the market for these has been saturated. Consequently, they have stopped production, with no replacement forecast for dedicated slide scanners. I got mine here and it looks like they still have them in stock, so go for it:

Am I right in assuming you are taking the Gloster E28/39 to Kemble for the Air Day on 17th June?
Also the Sea Fury and Swordfish videos now at absolute bargain prices – reduced to clear – get ’em while stocks last!
All HERE as usual.
Lee, Is the footage on the Sea Fury and Swordfish DVDs identical to that on the video versions? Thanks.
The last batch of my pictures from Bruntingthorpe including XN584 !!
Does anybody know the ID of the Hunter in two halves or the JP nose on the trailer under a cover.
Ian,
There’s dedication and enthusiasm if ever I saw it? Well done, you are far more braver than I, who was put off by the atrocious weather with non-stop rain across the entire country. Even that farce at Abingdon was cancelled so I felt sure Bruntingthrorpe would be also. However, if they don’t fly, then why should it? Excellent stuff as always and thanks for posting these.
Sea King HAR3 xz598, 596… RAF Leconfield (still in service, but ancient)
Well, two years since I started this thread, some people seem to have deviated from the original question that was “What aircraft have you flown in that are warbirds or perhaps preserved now in museums”.
Sorry, but Sea Kings XZ598 & 596 fall into neither of these categories!
B*gger!, B*gger!, B*gger!!
I had been taking photos of my model Mi-26 – with spotlights, so the camera was set to Tungsten.
I forget to switch back to AWB – so all my photos of GVFW have come out BLUE !!!
I have done the best I can with the balance….
Here are the pics of the three Chrisleas…..
Ken
Taking blue pictures again Ken? Don’t worry the ‘cavalry’ comes to your rescue
I am part of the build up team, starting Monday 11th with bringing the E28/39 in for static,
Friday 15th could be interesting.
Will the Science Museum allow this to be removed from their top floor in South Kensington??
Here ’tis.
As ever, an interesting backdrop, from which I’m sure some here will be able to state the show. Black Farnborough sheds(?) and l-r Fariey Gyrodyne, AW flying wing(?) some over-rated fighter type, make me an offer, 😀 some British airliner thing with a tailwheel – Vickers Viking?
Floats look very like the Norseman’s set.
[/I].
James,
This is not Farnborough, but Radlett in 1947, the year before the SBAC shows moved to Farnborough. This Proctor floatplane was only shown statically and was subsequently de-converted and sold to Canada as CF-EHF.
