Hi folks
back from vacation and just found this lovely shot while browsing the web:
source is on the pic.
I assume you’ll love it – and you Spitfire pro’s are kindly invited to add the “curriculum vitae” to this beauty. TIA !
Martin / Swiss Mustangs
I can provide the CV for this photo because it was taken by ME!!! Someone is trying to sell this slide on an auction site, palming it off as an ‘original’ slide, but as I can account for the slides I took, I know this a duplicate slide bought from Aviation Photo News whom I took the shot for (slide buyers beware!) This photo was taken over Gloucester-Staverton during the Skyfame Air Display on 31st March 1968 and was taken from the Airspeed Oxford, V3388/G-AHTW(oooh, aren’t I a lucky chappie! ) that was then airworthy and is now at Duxford being restored, albeit only to static condition. We were also in formation with Skyfame’s Anson 1, N4877/G-AMDA which is also now at Duxford. The Spitfire T.8 was being flown by its owner, John Fairey. Anyone want to see more shots from this sortie?
It would be nice if they could fit a nose turret to her?
Lovely for Stampe collectors!!
Just guessing they could be on holiday. Another reason might be that because they have opened new areas of the museum they haven’t got extra staff to watch those areas yet. All just guesses. I’m sure someone knows the real reson. I’ll be back there in September for some serious photography! 😀
I take my photography seriously everywhere I go, but in the RAF Museum I just give up because it is so dark 😮 The only place you can get decent shots is in the Milestones of Flight. The rest, you need tungsten lighting film, plus a tripod or a VERY powerful flash! Anything less and you give up! 😡
The only chance you stand is with a good quality digital camera and tripod, but even then the shots have an eery green tone to them!
Great stuff, but what’s G-AGEG doing in NZ?? That’s Torquil Norman’s machine that I’ve flown in?
I’d go for something even larger and be a Jimmy Stewart for a bit….
The B-36 Peacemaker….have to be the later ones with the 6 turnin’ and 4 burnin’….. 🙂
…and in which airworthy B-36 would that be in???
errr… think you got the wrong end of the stick there mate!
There’s always someone that will ‘bite’ when you try and add a bit of humour!
Airlines have double standards. One airline objects to this T-shirt and another calls itself ‘Hooters’ ….and promotes the name!!!!
You can park in the long lay-by opposite the Flight Tavern, then walk up to the fencing by the 08 threshold. If the a/c are landing this end you can see them coming for several miles. You cannot park your car on the verges since 9/11. The police will come and move you on. Nowhere useful at the other end.
The last sentence is not true! You can stand on the perimeter road at R/W 26 end as long as you park your car in the multi-storey car park first. It’s only a very short walk. The police tolerate enthusiasts, as long as its clear what you are doing and won’t move you on.
Unplug it from your PC and carry it under your arm!!
What timescale were these taken in, Tony? Very nice, but is this a day’s shooting or within 1-2 hours? What is defined as ‘busy’? Heathrow is one per 2 mins, but when I’ve been to Bristol it can be a bit of a drag.
brill info hope all goes well for you 🙂
2000 POSTS AND I LEAVE!!…is that a promise? :p
Just imagine if it crashed!!
Is that a Fokker Friendship in the background of your take-off shots Glen? Which one and what’s it doing there?
Albert, there’s no beer at the Tower, let’s make it 12:00 outside the bar instead.
Rob
Sorry, I want to take SHARP photos! Tried mixing alcohol and photos before 😮
