I think your friend is confused as all the Kenyan pilots were trained by the RAF and the Kenya Air Force Bases at Eastleigh and Embakasi were former RAF stations, so perhaps he assumed the Tri-Pacers were operated by the RAF?

At one time the Philippine Air Force was going to have them. If they can’t afford them, why can’t NZ give them away rather than scrap them? VERY surprised at this, as I thought Indonesia might want them , at least for spares?

Would be nice to see KP208 put back in the RAF VIP scheme I first saw her in,polished silver with white roof and blue cheatline. Would make a change from yet another one in RAF D-Day scheme.

Old Warden programme looks good with full WW1 scenario. Hope to make it and if i do, will be near the Control Tower gate at 12.00. MOF, I was queuing alongside you to go through RIAT security, but I guess I had my transparency cloak on!!

Having flown in a few warbirds, I think the Spitfire has still got to be my goal!

Well back and now rested from doing the night security looking after the helicopters and I can tell you the pod contains a camera used for hydrographics work down south. They were en-route to Cosford apparently to take part in some tri-service photo thing.
There was some friendly competition between the German CH-53 crew and the Dutch Chinook crew as to who had the biggest chopper!
    OAW

Ah, thanks for that! That’s about what I thought the Lynx pod would be used for, as I hadn’t heard of the need for an additional radar or even an AEW Lynx?

Anybody notice the 3 ex My Travel DC10’s at Kemble appear in the background on Top Gear last night?

Yes, and the two ex-Meridiana BAE 146s. ‘Top Gear’ also uses Bruntingthorpe.

It is almost certainly the old Frog/Novo Sea Hawk which is available in plastic packets from obscure model traders at air shows everywhere.
And if you think that is bad then you obviously never met the Gannet – three moulded in heads, no wheel wells, rotten decals, etc. I believe lots of Frog models of that period (the Supermarine N.113 [Scimitar prototype] and the Sea Vixen, for example) were of the same standard – think about that when moaning about the Airfix Blenhiem…

Airfix do a 1/48th scale Hawker Sea Hawk? 😮

Wrong! Classic Plane make a 1/48th Sea Hawk and MPM make one in 1/72nd scale – both excellent kits!

If we go a little bit beyond the second world war I’ve always wanted to be able to buy an injection moulded kit of the Hadley Page Hastings. I know there’s a vacuum formed kit but thats about as useful to me as a chocolate fireguard – I’m not that good at kits.

Yes, I would agree with that – more RAF transport aircraft – Hastings, Argosy, Andover etc.

    Saturday at Farnborough.

    ——————————————————————————–

The SBAC may longer stage shows at Farnborough in the future so after a long absence I felt it was time to return.

Heres a few photos of the historic types.

    Septic.

….were they staging them shorter before????

The PhilAF cannot afford brand new aircraft like the JAS-39, so they should accept the ROCAF offer of F-5E/Fs. This is their cheapest option, despite the maintenance costs. I visited several Phil.AF bases in 1980 and I was told that their F-5As had their noses painted black to look like F-5Es!!! If that isn’t desperate, what is? At that time, I saw the F-8H Crusaders in operational condition at Basa Air Base and was told they are a nightmare to maintain! They should never have bought them, as they were unsuitable as land-based aircraft in that climate. I agree with ‘Arthur’ and ‘Seahawk’ that they need more COIN aircraft and choppers, so some Tucanos would suit their needs.
