For those not in the area, best to get there by train to Camborne, then by bus to Helston. The list is not exactly exciting at present, but Culdrose shows are an unknown quantity and previously there have been surprises wheeled out by the School of Aircraft Handling and maybe there will be some foreign Merlins there for training.
There has been an ex-Ethiopian Airlines DC-6 parked disused at Addis Ababba and has been for sale for years. Don’t know if it’s still there?
This Spitfire replica has been displayed at the Abingdon Fayre during the past two years, so we may see it there on 6th May.
What’s the signficance of the “Team Apache” insignia on the nose?
Pardon my ignorance, did the RCAF ever operate Hunters? Just a question sparked by the shots of ‘ZIC as I was under the impression that their first swept wing aircraft was the F-86
No Mike they didn’t. This one is operated by the Northern Lights Co. under contract to the Canadian Government for work similar to FRADU, probably hence the visit. However, I thought they were all in Canada and this one seems to have a “Team Apache” insignia on the nose:confused:
The only opera I know of that has an aircraft in it is “The Phantom of the Opera” 😀 Unless you count the “Buccaneers of Penzance”
Just a quick up date for all you keen Vixen spotters. Half way through the paint and the bottom surface is painted now in ***** *****:diablo: . Top surface coat of ***** **** *** ****:diablo: due to go on shortly and all the markings etc. Barring some catastrophe she should be out of the paint shop next monday and weather prevailling unvielled and flown off on the Thursday:D . Cann’t wait to see her in her new wig…as I’m sure neither can many others:p
…err, let me see….hmmm…GLOSS WHITE. Top Surface EXTRA DARK SEA GREY…..err, um!:D
It is a lighter green as in the colours of the lettering “AER Lingus” on the fuselage.
What evidence do you have to support that? The lettering “AER LINGUS” doesn’t look a lighter green at all, more like dark green outlined in the same lighter colour as the stripes?
I would agree with Eric. Here is a photo from my archives of sister ship EI-ADF and looking at the tones of the outlining stripes and knowing Ireland’s national colours, I think it’s pretty certain they’re orange.
The Glad’s now sporting some very nice roundrels.
You can cut all this ‘cloak and dagger’ stuff out as Aeroplane Monthly’s article has revealed all – Shuttleworth HAVE accepted my suggestion to them in my post #3 (all rush to have a look….;) )

You’re quite right Mark. Another thing that concerns me is that it was stated that if an immediate sponsor cannot be found, the Sea Vixen will be put into storage at Yeovilton pending its future. As the FAA Museum already have two Sea Vixens, it’s a pity that it can’t be kept in the Bournemouth Aviation Museum, to be admired by everyone and especially as the Sea Vixen production line was at nearby Christchurch. If it was hangared there during it’s Red Bull sponsorship, why can’t it’s location remain, or did Red Bull also sponsor the hangar and the space is needed for something else?
Albert have you contacted the owner of these aircraft before making such a rude statement, if the aircraft are in storage pending restoration/what have you then surely they are better to be kept intact and not plundered by people who don’t think except out loud.
What ‘rude statement’? All I suggested is that the owner be contacted to see if any spares were available between the two airframes?
No one mentioned anything about ‘plundering’ airframes!! 😡
It’s just silver at the moment. It’s on public view in hangar one for all of those who’d like to see it.
So Chris Morris’s theory about it receiving a camouflage scheme has obviously been changed. I’m pleased about that, so what squadron markings are they going to apply?
Absolutely superb Les! Wouldn’t it be good if MAM could have a Flight Sim version of all their exhibits that they could sell and raise funds, so visitors could find out what they were like to fly?
Ken,
Why not contact :

He owns G-AKOE that has been stored at Chirk for nearly 30 years, along with G-AIUL/G-AJCL. If neither of these have been made airworthy in the last 30 years, then they might just as well use them for spares?
