As far back as possible I think. I too noted the name on the flight manual and thought the same. Great minds think alike.
Hope all is well with you. Will have to arrange something in the summer for when No.5 becomes airborne!
Best wishes,
Martin
Have checked my archives and earliest photo I took of ‘RB was in 1977 when she was red and white. Can’t unearth anything not covered on that website, but will make enquiries with ‘ a man who might know’. Will keep in touch re your kind offer – can’t wait!!
It’s only 3 and bit years Mike. 🙂
You must be getting tired of being corrected now with Albert only 7 weeks ago too.
Widgeon, Mallard, Gosling….I give up..think I’ll duck out now before I get goosed!!
Jeeees! That’s a surprise that no one has mentioned before. Look like Berlin Airlift Colours?? NICE!!! 😀
Hi Martin,
How far do you want to go back? I was just about to give you the link to that website when Rob beat me to it! Seems it has been at Sywell since 1951 and joined Brooklands Aviation, hence the red/black scheme. Looking at that website, there is a scan of the logbook which has the name ‘J.F.Coggins’ on the cover. I believe John Coggins was a radio engineer at Coventry and owned the Percival Prince now at Carnaervon and several light aircraft there, so ‘RB may well have been based at Baginton for a while.
Haven’t seen it looking THAT good for years, inside and out! Keep it up guys! Good ole MAM! 😉
Absolutely amazing that this thread has got the attention of two former pilots from “Simon’s Sircus”. I was extremely impressed by this team, hauling such large aircraft about in aerobatic manoeuvres, much like the “Thunderbirds” and “Blue Angels” when both teams flew Phantoms in the early ’70s. I am an aerobatic team historian and I was wondering if there was any official publicity material that you guys could scan and post, like a brochure, perhaps, or I would like to see that publicity shoot of the pilots on the ground at Yeovilton posing with a lion cub? Here is a shot I took at Yeovilton’s Air Day on 7th September 1968 with “Simon’s Sircus” Sea Vixens leading the “Phoenix Five” Buccaneer team from 809 Squadron. I can still hear that wonderful roar of 22 powerful engines roaring past! Yeovilton and Farnborough were the only shows I got to see these two teams perform at, but they were also at Brawdy in August. What other venues did you perform at?
Sea Vixen flights?
So what’s the situation with the Sea Vixen? I thought as soon as the Red Bull contract ran out, it would be grounded pending a new sponsor. However, since it’s repaint, it has made a couple of flights, plus a photo sortie and now a trip to and from Yeovilton. How many more flights can it make before the money runs out? Who is sponsoring all these ‘additional flights’ after the contract ran out? I thought it would make one flight to Yeovilton and be stored pending a new sponsor, yet here she is taxying out and departing yet again
Yugoslav Zlinn aerobatic team?
I have slides of two of these colourful Yugoslav Air Force Zlinns and wonder if they were an aerobatic team before the “Flying Stars” were formed? If so, how many were painted like this and what years did they operate?
Cosford museum if free, and the new cold war hanger open.
Train staion outside the gate also. but could not tell you what train or timetable would cover this line.
Central Trains from Wolverhampton about one an hour, I believe
Thank you every one.
Albert I have sent you a pm..
Hi resolution scan of my slide inbound to you! Enjoy!;)
If you have my book “Testing Colours”, there is one of my shots of her in that and you are welcome to use that one. PM me with an e.mail address and I will send you a scan of the original slide.
VERY good! Spot on! Well done to everyone involved – magnificent!:)
Christ! I read the title of this thread and thought a ‘Globie’ had been restored to fly or the Naval Air Facility had resurrected a Beech C-45:rolleyes:
Tonadoes…vintage?? Bah!:o
VR930’s got the correct colour roundels, the correct codes and all of the Hawker serial numbers and DTD specs plastered all over the place – all in the correct stencil font – which makes her stand out from a crowd. Have a close look when you see her around the shows this year 🙂
Well done Lee! Between us we’ll get the UK’s warbirds painted authentically!!
Love the new scheme as the Korean one is a bit ‘old hat’. Two-seater – silver with yellow t-bands please – is there any other RN scheme?;)
G-AGSH is actually owned by Philip Meeson, but is on loan to the Bournemouth Aviation Museum in return for hangarage. It attends several UK aviation events during the year and will probably be at Woburn in August.
