As to if the Widgeon was the British name – you may be right, but I think it was Grumman’s own. Anyone know?
    Cheers

    James,

Agree with all your corrections here and also that there were no Sealands in RN service or that there was one flying in 2002! Please can Mike scan the reference and let us all see it? I think he is confusing ‘Widgeon’ and the British name for the Mallard as there was no other name for a Mallard as far as I’m aware. However the British name for the Widgeon was the Gosling…as per Airfix kit!

Wonderful news! Knowing how well cared for the aircraft at MAM, are, it couldn’t have a better home! Think I’m right in saying that will make THREE Viscounts south of the border, after Cosford’s got ‘exported’, the other two being at Duxford and Brooklands. No doubt we shall eventually look forward to F-BGNR being repainted back to her original Air France livery?

Having looked through my slides when in the UK last, I discovered that I had at least 2 photos of JP’s in Macaws colours. For interest I’ve posted them below. Not sure where they were taken…but as my main source of location data – Albertross, perhaps will comment!

Ah yes, I recognise these shots as I also have these in my collection.
These are both in the 1968 scheme and XP686(on the left) was taken at Hatfield 13th July 1968. The other one is at Bentwaters on 11th May 1968.

This is the scheme that XP924 should revert to – 899 Squadron as in 1970.

    Adrian,

World’s sole surviving Sealand – what gave you that impression? At least two others survive in preservation 06662 (once G-AKLS) is in Belgrade and G-AKLW (which restoration is coming along nicely with the help of some Bombardier apprentices) in the UFTM museum on the outskirts of Belfast:)

    Tim

Ah yes, forgot about the Yugoslav example but was unaware that G-AKLW still existed! Excellent news.

Very good! Do they think the ‘INDIAN NAVY’ lettering on the Firefly is big enough? Did you shoot the Sea Hawk and the world’s sole surviving Short Sealand?

    Hi ‘Macaw 4’,

As an aerobatic teams historian,I am in contact with ‘Foxy’ regarding the Macaws in 1973, but have no information on the 1972 season. Therefore I am delighted you have posted these photos, but am unable to send you a PM for further info as you have no contact details. I would like to see a show schedule for ’72 if you have it and would appreciate a PM to discuss other Macaw matters!

Don’t think they have announced their 2007 schedule yet.

I am currently researching the JP/Strikemaster family for a book and saw G-SARK last year painted blue overall in the back of a hangar at North Weald, looking rather dusty and unflown, so this is tremendously good news.

I have lots of photos of Singapore Strikemasters in my archives, but regret not ‘311’. They were all painted the same on delivery, the colours being akin to USAF Vietnam camouflage – two-tone green, olive green and a darker green, together with tan brown. Undersides were light aircraft grey, same as on USAF Vietnam aircraft. Dayglo orange bands on rear fuselage and wingtips and there were NO Singapore national markings above or below the wings. Here is ‘302’ and if you PM me, hopefully I can supply you with other views to complete the repaint.

Another fantastic MAM restoration. This collection never fails to please!
Are those her original colours when she was built, as I have never seen a colour photo of ‘RYB in her original scheme?

    .

It will not be the end of G-CVIX as I believe another sponsor is already in the pipeline so don’t worry.;)

Hope it’s Richard Branson. I rather fancy a ‘Virgin Vixen’:diablo:

As part of the contract with Red Bull, the agreement included repainting it back into Royal Navy colours with full 899 Squadron’s winged fist tail marking.
It would be great if another sponsor could be found that would keep it in this scheme.

I think adding an aircraft like the 748 to the BBMF would be stretching it a little far!

…..if you did that, you would have to call it an Andover C.1:D

This is the 73 Squadron scheme I proposed to Shuttleworth a few years ago, but have no idea if it has been accepted? I think they may possibly do it in the colours of a Squadron that is currently active.
