I thought there might be problems, as I have been in constant touch with G-NATY’s owners awaiting an official launch date. Suddenly it’s all gone very quiet!:( I don’t understand why this one is having problems when G-MOUR, G-RORI and others don’t? Can anyone explain?
This is the latest one we have just released, all with enhanced 8mm silent film and dubbed in authentic sounds of the real aircraft. Very hard to get this right, but the result is you would never know this was not a sound film!!

Finding anyone with 8mm cine film of aircraft taken during the ’50s and early ’60s is extremely hard. Usually, anyone that has such footage isn’t interested in aircraft and has it mixed up with family home and holiday movies stored away in the attic, so would not appreciate its value. If anyone out there has any 8mm, Super8 or even better 16mm cine film taken during the ’50s or ’60s, especially of airliners, don’t hide it away as it could make you money.
Send me a PM and we will check it out for you? Unfortunately, every day someone passes away and collection of film and photos get thrown away by those that inherit them, without realising their value to those that are interested. Don’t let this happen to your collections!
From my life experience, it’s actually better, if you have similar interests, then you can indulge in them together. Problem with seperate interests, is you can lose a sense of companionship and togetherness.
If you both have an interest in a hobby, then you can both be actively involved in it. Unlike my predicament, where the wife is the complete opposite to me.
If I get the chance to start all over again, my priority in finding a mate, will be to find someone with similar interests.
I can’t take my wife to Airshows, because she’s not interested. So trying to find someone to take along, is a bit of a problem.

I used to think like you, but in my life experience, it is good to share eachothers interests. My wife is happy to go to air shows with me if, perhaps we can call into a Garden Centre on the way home…it’s all about give and take!

Have look at the website of this company which specializes in aviation DVD’s. There are a lot of short preview clips available. One I myself found particularly interesting was the one which shows the prototype HP Herald powered by four Alvis Leonides Major engines. I only had seen it on photographs, and this is the first time I saw (and heard) it fly by in its original design with the piston engines.
http://www.avionvideo.com/ click on ‘Classic Wings – Handley Page Herald’.
I found this link, by the way, through the guestbook of the newly launched website of Propliner Magazine, http://www.propliner.org.uk/ . Still in its infancy, but who knows what the future might bring.
Merry Christmas,
Tillerman.
I was involved in the production of this DVD and this is official Handley Page footage in the only DVD available on the history of the Handley Page Herald.
Unfortunately, much of the footage is silent, so genuine Alvis Leonides and and RR Dart engine sounds had to be dubbed in. In the case of the Dart sounds, it is indeed another Herald that was recorded and not a Friendship or a Viscount, so it is very authentic.
You can get the DVD from here:

…just ask ‘Albert’!
The paint scheme looks like the 1960s scheme for the U.S. carrier Continental Airlines..aka “The Proud Bird with the Golden Tail”.
Anybody agree or am I nuts?
You’re quite correct! When Channel bought up a lot of Continental’s Viscounts in the mid-60s, they changed very little of the livery apart from the titles and registrations. They even kept the same ‘Continental Golden Viscount’ on the fin(of course ‘Continental’ now related to the Continent!).
A very economical and shrewd move and they liked the scheme so much, it continued on to their HS748s, Tridents and BAC 1-11s. Even a Dove and Heron ended up in this smart scheme.
This is the brochure (leaflet) for the 1974 Swords team. We were partly sponsored by the Wilkinson Sword company which i believe was the first time a civilian company had been allowed to sponsor an RAF team.
Aha, so you were in the Swords also…..I have you on file!
Mike, many thanks for posting that. It seems strange that CAW continued using the JP4 in 1973, when all the other FTSs had converted to the T.5.
Tried sending you a PM re Macaws, but you have no contact info. Appreciate if you could PM me, as I have an offer to make you? Thanks.
I have contributed under another thread but here it is again:-
I joined Manby in 1972 and was selected to fly in the MACAWS at the end of that year for the 1973 season.
The 1973 team consisted of Pete Diggance, leader. John Aldington number 2 myself number 3 and Mick Marriott number 4, with Sqn Ldr Bob Hillman the manager and Frank Redmond the commentator.
We displayed all over the UK and the continent, generally transitting in a 5 ship formation at low level.Mike Fox
That’s very interesting, Mike, as my records show the last season for the Macaws was 1972 and I have no record of them appearing at any show in 1973. Would love to see any photos and know which UK shows you attended that year?.
I think I will have to more careful the next time I speak about new airframes. The internet at times can be a wonderful thing and then sometimes things or threads back fire on you. An example for me being the Hong Kong Auster 9. Perhaps I shouldnt have been so keen to write this thread – but then its regarding my favourite subject – will think twice before putting my fingers to the keyboard in the future.
It was discussed a number of times, but nothing has been ever made concrete about purchasing the airframe. We know that it is in Florida and is up for sale, but apart from going to see it, nothing has been done by any British based restorer/enthuisast as to buying her. Perhaps I too, like most people out there is keen to see it back, but as we all know money doesn’t grow on trees and I think we have enough to work on in the near future.
But you never know. I hereby apologise to all of those people out there that thought she was coming home, but as we speak, the airframe is staying in the States.
Work is still progressing well on the main subject of this thread and its now been registered as G-CEHR. Will try and keep you all informed of its progress and look forward to seeing photos of both her and the American based example in due course.
Best wishes,
Martin
Not to worry Martin, we all get carried away by enthusiasm sometimes and I’ve been known for a ‘beam me up Scottie’ moment, where enthusiasm rides over tact and diplomacy. We all do it! Keep up your Auster news though, as there are lots of us with great affection for the type.
Adrian, excellent photos thanks for sharing them. One question, are you following her around avoiding the horrible English weather or have you got friends in the right places? Bex
I wish, I wish:rolleyes: Even Southend is too far away! Just happen to have contacts throughout its route that are sending in pics.
….and in LAX on Monday
VH-XBA has arrived in Florida and was met by John Travolta in his ‘QANTAS’ 707 = what a magnificent sight!
This is probably the best one, issued by DD video, but don’t think any Buccaneer video has yet been re-released on DVD.
