Thanks Dave, but you are assuming we all know where the ‘Aviation Heritage Center’ is?? I am taking an educated guess ‘somewhere in New Zealand’?

Does anyone have a photo of XN408/N408XN/HKG-7 in any of it’s guises that they would care to delight us with?

The Florida machine is on display at Lakeland but looks somewhat out of place !

Very similar thoughts to a Sunderland and Lysander at Kissimmee? I’m sure the Auster will be greatly appreciated here in UK, once Richard and all at Eggesford get their hands on it! Can’t wait! 😉

Hope to go there in 2007. With a cheap flight from Holland, it is possible to make a one day visit, leaving early, and be back the same day. Salu2 Art

Yes, if you’re not planning to take any photos!! 😮

But… you do mention Hong Kong 9s….well we might be getting one of those too and an original Radio Flight example will be coming home next year.

..and then perhaps two white ones. The skies (and bank balances) are the limit.

    Best wishes,

    Martin

Oh boy! This is great news, but which one? The RHKAAF had FOUR AOP.9s, WZ731 and XN407 which both crashed as ‘HKG-6’ and XN408 and XN410 which were ‘HKG-7’ and ‘HKG-9’ respectively. Didn’t think any survived?

Just a thought – what is the interior like? Does it still retain it’s Saudi executive fit, has it been restored to full pax fit, or just empty for the ferry flight? Anyone know?

At the risk of it being yet another brown and green Army Air Corps machine, have you considered doing it as a Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force AOP.9?

Nice shots Rob. MAM are doing a great job restoring the outside aircraft. Think the Whirlwind is to be restored in early Bristows colours and possibly the Argosy is next?

Unfortunately not but I did see it in the radar at work. Does that count !!!!!!

Presumably then, you will post a photo of an orange radar blip? 😀

VH-XBA has just departed Southend at 1338 (Saturday) for an air test.

Ian – were you there with camera?

I was involved with making a DVD with Avion Video entitled “Vickers props farewell”, which you can purchase here:

    http://www.avionvideo.com/products.asp?action=display&ch=dvd&sel=W032&id=Current%20Programme

It features footage of Viscount G-APEY at that Lydd Air Show and you can relive all that lovely whistling sound once again.

Apologies if this has already been covered, but if this is the original VH-EBA, why doesn’t she revert to that serial? Furthermore, there is a good photo of her on http://www.Airliners.net and if you look closely at the ‘X’ in the registration, it appears to be thinner than the rest of the letters, indicating that this is a delivery registration and once she gets to Oz, perhaps there is an ‘E’ underneath awaiting to be uncovered.

This thread reminds me that my very first roll of colour slide film was exposed on a couple of Belgian Air Force Thunderstreaks at the Bristol Air Day, Filton on 18th June 1966. One was flown by a crazy Belgian pilot at ultra-low level down the runway with smoke – fantastic! 😮

I quite agree with Bruce, Lyneham is scheduled to close in 2012 and there are no plans for XK699 on the gate there. It should go to Hendon or Cosford, probably the former in view that Cosford already have a Comet, which should be repainted as XM823.

I don’t know if the burnt out wreck is a Bell 47 There is not enough to see…and in one shot it looks like it has a multiple blade rotor head rather than the two blade Bell unit. Besides, I don’t know what one would be doing there with Iraq’s long history of UK and later Russian/Soviet Block equipment.
Could it be a Skeeter or Sycamore?

Also, that looks like a wingless Cessna Bird Dog…I don’t know what one of those would be doing there either (unless a gift from someone…but they were rather rare in the mid-east).

You are right first time, it’s definately a Bell 47G. When you say’ one shot looks like it has a multiple blade rotor’, I think what you are seeing is the tail rotor of the Mil Mi-4 beside it. The only country I think it could have come from is South Yemen? Also, I would agree that your other query definately appears to be a wingless Cessna Bird Dog. This could have come from almost anywhere? Another one that puzzles me is the Piaggio P.166 in the foreground. Where did that come from, other that Italy?
