Re Iraqi preserved aircraft.
An interesting thought – if these were discovered during the 1991 Gulf War, would they be regarded as being ‘war booty’ that could be liberated to the Coalition Forces’ countries? The USA has several former Iraqi AF types and I wonder what has happened to all those MiGs they discovered buried in the sand, not to mention the Fury ISS on the roundabout and the Iraqi Twin Pioneer at Baghdad Airport? Nothing more has been heard of them, so have they just been ‘dumped’? As the Coalition Forces are attempting to stabalise and rebuild the country, will these collections remain there to rot or be ‘acquired’ by more caring US and European museums?
This are simply amazing SFF! A great coup to find this collection. What did you take these from? It looks like there is guard standing there, so perhaps someone could get you escorted there to shoot each aircraft on the ground.
Anyone have any pics of PZ865 in civvie colours as G-AMAU?
Are the Battle parts connected with the film prop guy in Canada who seemed to have a few large lumps?
..would that be the “Battle of the Bulge”? 😉
Lyneham has a Comet 2 at the main gate and a Dakota across the road at the 47 Air Despatch gate
Here are some of my Airfix Jet Provost models
She’s a cutie Mantog.
ONe of my museum friends is a big fan of Helen Tempest. Have you one of her to post. PLus im int in why he keeps raving about her as I havnt a clue what she looks like.
I asked about Helen whilst chatting to Vic Norman at Sywell and was told she left the team just before the show to have a baby! Doesn’t time fly?
Princess Air operated just two BAe 146s, G-PRIN and G-BRXT leased from BAe during 1990, but did not last long, collapsing and returning the aircraft the following year.
If your a model maker you can try the Aeroclub kit. A mixed offering of white metal and vacform parts. It looks pretty good once completed. Unsure if they still produce it. If not then try a specialist kit dealer such as king kit. By the way th ekit is in 1/48th scale
Impossible to get now! Aeroclub made superb kits of the JP4 and JP5 but they were short-run kits using rubber moulds, which have since worn out.
Incidently they were 1/48th proper injection-moulded plastic kits (not vac-formed) Consequently if one appears on E.Bay, expect to pay around £50 for it!!
Having worked on JP3 and 5 for five years on JPH at RAF Cranwell (2 seasons as “Poachers” groundcrew) I still have a soft spot for the old “JP”.
Since retiring from the RAF 10 years ago I have collected die-cast models of all the a/c that I worked on or had an engineering connection to – Buccaneer, Hunter, Hercules and Tornado. The one that is the most elusive is the Jet Provost of any mark. Does anyone know where I can source one?
I have tried trawling through the main model sites (there is a hand carved one, lots of dosh) but to no avail! Here’s hoping!

This is the only one I know

This is a diecast model, but rather expensive for a small 1/200th scale model.
Even JP kits are becoming very rare but do come up on E.Bay. Easier to find JP Mk.5 kits that JP Mk.3/4 though.
All the information you will need is in this book, which is currently available:

I have a copy and it’s excellent with photos, drawings etc.
How Airfix could continually reissue kits like their Beaufighter, MiG-15, Tiger Moth and a few other ‘horrors’ and have the nerve to announce them as ‘new’ every time they were reissued, is beyond me. I put several suggestions to them for new kits, which all fell on stoney ground as they refused to invest in any new moulds. I still don’t know how the TSR-2 got produced and I nearly fell through the floor at Telford when that was announced! 😮
ty for the info on no entry, shame that as to me and im sure everyone else would agree with me that an “Open door” policy really makes a museum work.
Last time I was at Cosford, I mentioned this to a staff member and he said that it’s good old H&S ruining things again!!
Thanks AR, worth a shot! What scale are the S&M decals? I might build a 1/12 scale 111 or Trident, so could scan them and blow them up to the right size
Viscount is 1/96 scale for Glencoe kit and BAC 1-11 and Trident are 1/144th scale for Airfix kits. Incidently, S&M will release a new 1/144th plastic kit of a Viscount next weekend and I think have Channel decals for it.
AR, Any chance you can persuade them to do any Channel Airways schemed models, please? 😀
Presume you mean a Viscount and DC-3, as there are no other Corgi subjects suitable? Actually there are new decal sheets just released by S&M Decals for a Channel Aitrways Visciunt, One-Eleven and Trident which I obtained last weekend. Regret can’t get Corgi to do small airlines that won’t sell worldwide. 🙁
