Albert, perhaps you could let us have your views on the colours used for the Corgi Sea Hurricane that’s supposed to represent the example we have at the Collection? My colour vision isn’t all that good but there appear to be tonal differences. You state above that the Collection have got the scheme “perfect” so why the difference?

Many people assume that these models form an historical representation of the originals so isn’t it important that they look something similar to the aircraft they’re supposed to represent?

Just a slight difference there!! Corgi had all the correct BS colour references + all-over colour photos from me. These went to the artwork agency, who forwarded them to the factory in China where hundreds of Chinese workers interpret these references. As with so many of these models, everything is perfect whilst in UK but once they leave our shores, you just have to hope it stays that way! Can’t compare this with painting one single aircraft in UK, sorry ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

    Steve,

Thank God there is someone that can see my point – thanks for your support!
This is the sort of thing that gets the history books changed! Historical accuracy must be upheld and maintained for future generations. To my mind if a genuine scheme is going to be reproduced it must be 100% accurate, or else just paint the Tiger yellow overall and put its civil registration letters on it!

I can assure you that quite a bit of research was carried out into this scheme

    Yours sincerely Steven Panter.

    Mr. Painter,

If the job had been done properly in the first place, there would be no need for any comment just praise. Your ‘quite a bit of research’ obviously didn’t include checking a photo of the original team? Indeed I have contacted Shuttleworth about this and it was me that provided all the reference photos for the Tutor repaint, but they still chose to paint the top decking green despite the evidence that it should be RED! ๐Ÿ˜ก For a collection constantly in the public eye, not only the general paying public, but historians expect Shuttleworth’s aircraft to be painted accurately! We are still waiting for the Gladiator to be repainted in accurate RAF colours after a protracted period in that awful dual-serialled Norwegian scheme! If aircraft such as the Hind, Sea Hurricane and others can be repainted in perfect accuracy and authenticity, appreciated by those that know and those that don’t, then why spoil things for the former?

and is that a red leading edge on the top wing?

Front and trailing edges were silver, which they’ve got correct but you are right about the serials and roundels being wrong. Such a shame, as such inaccuate details could have been avoided with a little research, but obviously there are those that don’t care as long as ‘it looks pretty’!

I would pay for another DC6 passenger flight…last one was IFA from Gatwick in ’76…. ๐Ÿ˜€

Last DC-6 passenger flight from UK was HB-1BS of Balair from Gatwick in May 1977.

and now a little eye candy for the PC-7 admirers out there….
Escuadrilla Acrobรกtica “Azul” – Bolivia (circa 1986)
“Taming Sari” – Malaysia (circa 1991)

What about the earlier “Tamin (not ‘Taming’) Sari” scheme? Also the Swiss PC-7 team?

On the topic of Viscounts: what was the last flyable/airworthy Viscount in the UK?

G-APEY of British World Airlines was the last passenger Viscount which made enthusiast farewell flights during 1996 before leaving for South Africa where it is parked wfu. Not sure if any freighter Viscounts were left airworthy in UK after this.

Never mind Albert, its only paint.

What colour were the spin strakes on the original?

The original team weren’t fitted with spin strakes, but just to prove my point here they are. Note how shallow the red top fuselage decking is and the front of the engine cowling is silver. I pointed out this error to the owner of the G-ANNI, whose aircraft Shuttleworth appear to have copied and he said his would be corrected whenever they had time to do it!

Well thanks James, that’s some progress to establishing that they exist anyway.

‘a Catalina’ or ‘THE’ Catalina? Are we talking about Plain Sailing’s white PBY-5A or was this another one?

    Egyptian K-8 team info?

Does anyone have any information on the Egyptian Air Force Aerobatic Team called the “Silver Eagles” (I think?) who sent one of their NAMC K-8 trainers to the Archangel 2005 air show at Tanagra, Greece? Did anyone go there and talk to the pilots?

    Beats a Vulcan anyday, Steve.

PS. and remember G-APSA already has an Air Transport (Passenger) C of A.

Here, Here…cost effective also as passengers would pay to keep her in the air. Would not take a lottery grant to put her back in British Eagle colours…
hmm…we lost our last airworthy Viscount, so at least give us an airworthy DC-6?
