The Valetta at Cosford is stored without its wings although I belive that the museum still has the wings as they did not want the wings from VX577 at Sunderland prior to its remains being scrapped.
Here is Cosford’s Valetta, which I last photographed there in June 1985. Think it has been hidden away in storage ever since. VX573 is named “Lorely” and is in RAF Germany Comms Sqn. colours(not Transport Command). VX574 was in an identical scheme used by RAF Malta. Have no idea when it will be restored but with all those aircraft moved out into the new Cold War Museum, there should be room for it now.
…are you positive Tim?
Rumor has it there is a pretty good collection of airworthy classic British aircraft still flying out of Coventry…….. 😉
Tom.
…depleted by one at Deenethorpe!! 🙁
Got anymore Consul, i am supprised that a few more have not appeared. Suppose its not Old Warden or Duxford is it 😀
I think a lot of people were put off by either the weather or the £15 pp entrance charge! 🙁
I’m with Rob …..Staverton is where it’s located ….a marketing name is far less evocative ….for most of its lengthy history it’s been Staverton and Staverton for some it will always be -by the way I still refer to Birmingham International as Elmdon!!! 🙂
Rob – I too was at Staverton on Saturday on my way back from Bristol where I collected an Avro Cadet prop that I have obtained – shame we didn’t meet.
Regards
Tim
Tim – I can’t get used to Bournemouth International Airport either – it’ll always be Hurn to me!

Albert,
this one was published before and in this thread by tbzz…
regards.-.
Yep, that’s the one in the background behind the Bravo!
Thanks Tom, but I really didn’t even contemplate the word ‘scrapped’. We know it’s none of our business what you do with your aircraft, but it’s pretty obviously that parking such a loved classic at such a bizarre location is going to attact attention! It is such a shame that its usefulness with Air Atlantique has apprently come to an end and I guess that must mean the same for ‘PSA. I’m sure as soon as you are able to reveal their fate, you will and just hope that doesn’t mean they will be sold abroad 😮
Following the 1991 Gulf War, someone took a photo in a hangar of a newly-delivered Iraqi Air Force EMBRAER Tucano. I think the photo was published in AFM. What intrigued me was the colour scheme was identical to the red and white scheme worn by the Brazilian Air Force aerobatic team “Esquadrilha da Fumaca”. Would like to see a scan of this picture if anyone has it, or any colour pictures of Iraqi Tucanos. That leads me to wonder if the Iraqi AF had formed an aerobatic team just prior to the war, or was planning to?
Il-76 and An-12
Where did that An-12 shot come from, as that’s MINE?
Here is another one… I took both these at RAF Lyneham in the 1970s
Just a reminder of what a wonderful back-bone this magnificent aircraft has been to Air Atlantique, together with G-APSA, in providing revenue and reliability for more than 20 years, not to mention the immense pleasure she has given us at air shows. Here is a shot I took of her near Coventry in 2001, during a sortie a few days after she had been rolled out in her current scheme. I personally would be gutted to see this classic anywhere except in UK skies.
nothing more than we expected given the situation.
Tom
..what ‘situation’? This is all a mystery to us. Why has this DC-6 been left here unattended, when it could have stayed at Coventry….or is there something more?
I can’t believe a responsible airline like Air Atlantique would, what almost seems ‘abandon’ one of their DC-6s at a disused airfield with no security, possibly to avoid airfield parking and storage fees, as they no longer own Coventry Airport? Please someone tell me this is not the case? 🙁
It does indeed appear to be one of the three you listed. You’re not the first person to spot this:
Windy with some sun but lots of stormy cumulous clouds building up producing heavy showers in the west. Must have hit the PFA Rally at Kemble also 😮 Not at all nice conditions to fly light vintage aircraft.
