There are only two sadly missed by any true British airline fan – BEA and BOAC which disappeared on 1st April 1974 when BA was formed.
[QUOTE=cloud_9One airline that no-one has yet to mention, and has quite recently disappeared is…Britannia
I flew with them on numerous occasions, because the aircraft where always clean, and staff where always helpful and polite.
!BRING BACK BRITANNIA![/QUOTE]
I flew with them twice in 1991 and thought they were the worst airline flights I had ever had. Cabin staff were hopeless and seat pitch was crippling!
It would be interesting to know what sort of research goes into recreating a nose art like this; of course there’d be the gathering of all known images of the aircraft in question, but then, those photos might not always be all that clear; so presumably, some enhancement goes on? And some work to establish the correct colours? Chatting to anyone who remembers the actual aircraft? And then, the actual painting process would be interesting to know about too?
Fluffy/anyone?
Here’s the best photo I can find, albeit in b/w. Code letters will be ‘BQ-B’.
Albert,
Do you know anyone with good images of the Macaws bird emblem from the nose of the JP?
James
Look no further. Have better shots, when I have a moment I’ll sort them out for you.
Thats’ interesting – I hadn’t noticed they were gone… I downloaded so I’ll PM them to you
James
Bizarre! They were there this time yesterday!!
New team in Croatian Air Force “Krila Oluje” (Wings of Storm)

Where have the photos of this team gone?
Albert,
Thanks very much. I ‘stumbled’ upon your site back in December – very informative (you do have a few dead links). I myself am a lapsed IPMSer – its been a few years. Do you know anyone with good images of the Macaws bird emblem from the nose of the JP?
If anyone wants a great look at Canadian aerobatic teams check out this link…

If he doesn’t have any of the book left, Larry at Canav may have a few.
Its a beautiful book, albeit heavy and pricey. (I designed and produced it for him)
James
I have this book – it’s superb! 😀
Thanks for clearing up the situation ‘Crewdog’.
I hope that if needs must, G-TIMM will be re-finished back into silver with yellow training bands.
If only someone would paint a Hunter in those colours 🙂
They have just done the T.7 at Cosford in that scheme and 74 Sqn. markings.
Glyn,
What is quite amazing is that these all have one thing in common – they are all still surviving and airworthy, believe.
Ill-feeling rumbles on regarding the huge rise in admission charge for the general public which in 2005 rose from £5.00 per person, to £15.00. This rate is set by the Abbey and NOT the Moth Club, who are advising a return to a more reasonable fee.
For years, they have charged £10.00 per car for admission to the park and only additional charges for admission to the house. When did this change?
DJ,
Any idea what the old Yug AF Sabre team was called? I’ve seen a few drawings of them but not much info
James
“Akrotim”
Here’s another question for anyone…
Egyptian Air Force Aerobatic Team (201 Squadron)… by now I think we may have all seen the shots of the K-8 at the Archangel (Greece) Air show… I’ve seen the K-8 in this Red,Black,White scheme (tail numbers 1 and 2) and seen it mentioned as the air force team…Anyone have any info on the origins/name of the team??
I did read on a Spanish site a reference to some cooperation late 70s/80s between a Spanish AF Mirage Squadron and the Egyptian team refered to as the Silver Falcons (my translation – my Spanish is just OK)
Again – my apologies to photographers – another random find on the net.
James
We are all trying to find out more about this team, which is called “The Silver Eagles”. Apparently they were previously equipped with Alpha Jets, but all correspondance to Egypt or the London Embassy produces zilch! No one has seen any photos or seems to have any information. If anyone went to the Archangel Show, did they speak to the pilots? Strange for a public display team to have NO publicity!
I am a member of the IPMS Aerobatic Teams special interest group.
You can find links to ALL the teams here:
Here is G-ARRM in its original scheme at Farnborough in September 1961. The colours were metallic bronze and white (often referred to as ‘cream’). The Humbrol No.55 ‘Bronze’ colour is a very good match.
Give my regards to Mick – he’s doing a great job! We were at Brize Norton together and reprayed my Datsun Sunny in ‘VC-10 white’ ! 😎
Adrian
Les,
Well done to the MAM guys. Do you know what markings it will be painted in, or will it still retain its Suez stripes? Would love to see the Argosy tackled next in either AWA or BEA colours?
