Well what can I say very unimpressed with the organisation held on the day.

We take six aeroplanes, stay two nights away at another airfield and then when we get to Middle Wallop, dont get security checked (even though we all had to pass our details on the week before) and then have to stand around and wait ‘for someone’ for nearly three hours. This just wasnt our group, but all the visiting vintage aeroplanes too (12 Austers, 6 Chipmunks, 5 Tiger Moths and a Queen Bee…..and a Rearwin).

A few please and thank yous wouldn’t have gone amiss. No one really seemed to know what the procedure was as to us having lunch or refreshments etc. In the end we all have to thank Glenn Morton (think thats right) from the Panhandlers marshalling team that tried and tried and in the end part succeeded in obtaining that elusive meal ticket for us. If it wasnt him we would have literally starved (and I mean that). Thanks!!

Thanks also go to the G-VFWE team, for arranging for us to attend to what was a historic event, but one that could have been organised a whole lot better. Don’t think I’ll be around for the 100th Birthday.

Thanks also to Mr H for keeping my sanity going throughout the day and what with the best seats in the house, sat on the grass with only millions of craneflys to keep us company, what more could we have asked for…… well afternoon tea would have been nice!

    Martin

That’s VERY surprising Martin, especially as HRH Prince Charles was present.
I have also found the security at Middle Wallop to be slack and only cosmetic over the years, even during the IRA troubles, but when you are adding value to their event, that treatment is just unforgivable and I suggest Richard writes a strong letter to the Commandant…..btw, what on earth has a Rearwin got to do with the AAC history…don’t tell me Melv sneaked it into MW with the Austers?

A month later and does anyone have a recent photo of this, to show how they are getting on?

Tiger Moths are immortal! I can’t remember whether G-ANDE or G-ANOH have been ‘written-off’ the most times and have been resurrected.

Ahh, well you might (or might not) be right about that but the question is:

“Is this the best noise in the world?”

I don’t think it would be possible to get enough P51s close enough in the same airspace to make anything like the same level and quality of noise!

Ah, quite right Rob…close your eyes and the sound of a P-51 and a Vulcan can be easily confused with several other types. How about this for a distinct sound:

Does anyone know what day/time she will return to Coventry from Hamburg?
Just for comparison, here is a photo of the original PH-TGA at London Heathrow in 1953 about to commence the London-NZ Air Race. You can see what a good job they have done in making ‘PSA look authentic.

I agree she looks absolutely superb – here’s a shot I took of her last Friday routing out of Coventry.

Lovely Tim! Wish she would appear on next year’s show circuit in FULL markings, without having to have the titles deleted? Maybe KLM will sponsor her?

This is the image I have from Wilson Airport, though I might now get shot down in flames for saying its a Dak!

The location in question is ‘Moi’, as it’s well known that Nairobi-Wilson Airport is the home of Air Kenya (formerly Sunbird Aviation) who operated two Daks during the ’80s, so presume that is one of them. Next surprise will be a Google Earth picture of Coventry Airport?;)

There is also a Moi Air Base at Nairobi (formerly Eastleigh). Have just checked out Google Earth and can see Kenya Air Force Buffalos, Dash-8s and Dornier Skyservants there, but no Dak. I was there in 1987 and nearly got arrested trying to get permission to photograph a piston Provost on the main gate!!
If this reported Dak is in Kenya, it’s probably either one of the former Air Kenya machines, 5Y-BBN was one, or I wonder what happened to KN452 that was sold to the Kenya Police ion the late 60s?

Simon could you try to get a shot from Google earth and post it here?

I will try to contact a newspaper in Hermasillo, to see if i can tickle their repporter-bone a bit. Maybe we can get some kind of confirmation, or at least find out where they moved her.

I need the picture to pin-point the location.

    Found it!! Here:
