Interested? 😮 😮 Steve, do you need to ask that question – this is pure GOLD! (I’ll show you mine if you show me yours! 😉 ) BTW, what on earth are three Aeroflot IL-18s doing at Port Harcourt? Would mind betting ferrying Soviet troops somewhere or other?
A lot of filming was done at Brooklands, so perhaps it’s there?
It’s supposed to be set in the 1920s, but the appearance of the Chipmunk and the Lycoming-engined Bucker Jungmeister completely ruin it for any knowledgable aviation enthusiast. Apart from that, it’s worth watching every time. I am also searching for a Region 2 DVD of it, but guess it hasn’t been released over here.
Tremendous shots Seahawk. Many thanks for sharing!
Ok i am going with a female friend so i wont be chasing aircraft that much..
🙂
WHAT>??? 😮 😮 😮
Ask Albert?
I have been taking colour slides seriously and non-stop since 1966, so I thought there might be a good chance I had taken XS181 along the way!
Bingo! I find I shot it twice, firstly in the grey & dayglo scheme at Cranwell on 8th June 1968, when it was a Wing Commander’s aircraft (note pennant on fin), who was the Chief Flying Instructor. Second shot after repaint at Mildenhall on 22 May 1971. If you, or any JP owner wants hi-resolution versions of these shots for printing, please PM me. I have lots more (sorry, not XS186 though!)
So, does anyone know what’s there? Photos?
Not just in this country…………
Just look at the state of this Tu-114 at Vnukovo, Moscow………………
The Tu-104 next to it was just as bad…………..
Ken
Why didn’t we see these during the ’97 trip???
Cheers, by the way does anyone know why some Whirlwind Har.10’s have amore knobbly nose than others? For example the two partly painted dayglo orange on the above pics have it, whereas the 3rd pic doesn’t, i’ve only seen Whirlwinds in real life like the Whirlwind on the 3rd photo.
This is a ‘sand filter’, but I have no idea why Whirlwinds would need this in Borneo? I can only think these are a left-over from when they were operated in desert or dusty conditions like Cyprus or Aden?
Brilliant! Love the Whirlwind 10’s, if theres any more pics please post them, its bloody hard finding pics of them in camo like this, i wan’t to build a model one in that camo. Cheers, Bob
Great stuff Darren! Bob, here are some Borneo Whirlwinds taken during 1966-67 from my slide archives and hope these are useful.
Saw you there last year with Neil P. on the Friday. Lovely weather and no crowds during the arrivals, but THIS year it’s currently 8/8 grey, cold and windy! 😮 Do you know what’s coming, SHOULD the weather improve?
Anything out of the ordinary like a Polish W-3, special scheme Belgian Sea King – I wish!
I wasn’t there last year, simply because I didn’t know about it! So, definately more publicity like ads in the aviation mags. However, I got the feel for it from the photos posted. Now you can always improve an air show if money is no object and I know this is a charity event, but if you are going to have warbirds, may I suggest you give them something to do? I mean like have a few pyrotechniques with something on the ground for them to ‘attack’. This always goes down well with families that can get bored with just a single plane zipping up and down the crowd line. Burn a few old tyres or have an old car with orange smoke pouring out of it with the ‘baddies’ in it. Just some ideas. 😉
Great to see photos of the lightnings new colour scheme.
I understand the problems of airfield security and insurance for allowing public access to see XS458. but why do her engine runs have to be in such a secret? Can somebody please PM me next time the aircraft is active.Regards
DOUGHNUT
I would have thought that was pretty obvious…….or else you and the rest of the world would either pester the security to try and get in, or block the few viewing places around Cranfield’s perimeter roads and cause traffic congestion, bringing out the local police! 😮
This is just awful – I am so sorry to hear this! You never know what is around the corner and you have to live life to the full while you can – and Steve did! Good night Steve.
The photos of XS458 and the paint scheme are absolutely cracking, she looks absolutely beautiful…but at the risk of being flamed to Duxford and back, aren’t those roundels a little “world war one” in their proportions?
Yes, you’re right and there are several other errors – here is the original scheme on the T.4 this is supposed to depict. However, we must overlook these inaccuracies as we have a beautiful taxiable Lightning that is maintained and painted by a team of dedicated volunteers and is a great credit to them for that.
