Just a few comments and observations:

Only 5-7 oil wells currently burning.

I have very little faith in the numbers or predictions of NGO’s after their behavour in Afghanistan.

It appears Iraq has already started to murder and mistreat captives. It’s interesteing that it was an M-E news service that caught them at it. If you have doubts how they do things , you only have to look back to 1991.

The war is only 5 days old and already many are crying doom and gloom. Same thing happened in Afghanistan.

The story about an aircraft down in Baghdad seems to be Iraqi BS but the clown show at the river bank was entertaining at least.

IMHO the reporters at the military briefings are as dumb as a bag of hammers.

Helicopters are dangerious beasts. Sad that so many folk have died in accidents. 6 more in Afghanistan as well!

Saddam made his latest speech in front of a very wrinkled white sheet. Very spartan and no large group of automatons looking on.

I am totally behind this action and I wish the American, British and Australian military the best fortune possible. I only wish my government was giving them material support but sadly it’s in the hands of those who have little homour (or pride).

    Journalists to replace chickens

Did you all catch the item about the US Marines chickens? Apparently they brought 50 to Kuwait to act as alarms due to their sensitivity to chemical weapons. Most quickly died due to the mount of sand they ingested while pecking the ground.

When the Marines first looked around for a chicken replacement, they quickly noticed that most of the many journalists assigned to them, can’t be bothered to wear their chemical protection gear. Problem solved. Make sure a journalist is assigned to each combat unit. 😀

The Marines are now going to use pigions as well.

Apparently Belgium has backed away from it’s threat to deny the US use of Belgium airspace.

I quite agree with your comments.

He mentioned just about every tired old reason we have heard many times before for continuing to tolerate Saddam including the standard reference to Israel.

I am particularly astonished that he would say that Iraq “probably has no WMD…. capable of being delivered against a strategic city target” while at the same time admiting that Iraq probably has bio and chemical supplies. We all saw Iraqi missiles hit Israeli cities during 1991.

Most distrurbing of all is that he seems much more concerned about the political bruises and pride of the politicians, than the people of Iraq who have died due to Saddam’s brutality and who will continue to die as long as he is in power. He laments about the “heavy casualties of a war ” but his concern is not for those in Iraq who will die because of Saddam, it’s for the politicians.

At no time does he admit that the policies of containment and inaction has caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people in the middle east (not to mention Europe) during recent times.

At no time does he admit to the fact that the UN sat on its hands for years (1998-2002) until GWB shamed it into taking action. Now he argues that inspections and containment should continue indefinately. Not one word about the consequences to those in Iraq.

I also thought his reference to Gore, and the clear implication about the legitimacy of the Bush presidency, was the biggest insult of the US president that I have heard yet and I guess it was intended to be.

A totally selfserving speech without a shread of concern for the people of Iraq.

In this case negative is a better word. Realistic would involve accepting the fact that the aid is being used to clean up a mess that is beneficial to both Russia and the US.

Cuba has nothing to do with this issue.

    Great thought. Good list.

As a Canadian I can’t speak for Americans but as a long observer of American politics and media I must say that I very rarely observed anti-european attitudes or behavour from Americans until very recently. You can guess why that might be.

Returning to your post, I believe the list of things that Americans (and Canadians) love about Europe, is long indeed.

    Saddam says

Apparently Saddam has just gone on record and anounced that Iraq had WMD but dosn’t have any now:D

As a result of this admission, perhaps President Bush will say “good one Saddam, thats all we ever wanted ” and call off the war;)
