Thanks Jim. I’m sure you’re right. I can get modern IC sockets and quads which I think will do the trick for those, although it would be cool to find vintage ones.

I’m still stumped on the other parts.

The part with the tube sockets, I’ve named a “rack” which we use on another prop that we make, called a Mouse droid. I scaled those down and have been making kits for them at 82% scale for several years, to fit on a certain RC car. Now I’m scaling them back up to 100% scale and scratch building the “rack” … it would sure be awesome to find the real deal though.

A friendly bump … in case someone might have some idea on these parts 😉

    thanks.

I got to thinking. I know a few people in Europe. If shipping to the U.S. is a pain, and that’s why I keep losing contact with folks, perhaps someone would be willing to ship the items to one of my friends and they could ship to me?

    thanks,
    Cal

    Awesome. Thanks!
I don’t need the crystals anyway so … perfect! 🙂 The units don’t have to be functional at all either.

Shipping might be a stickler. I’m in Colorado / USA (zip 80538)

I would love to see some pics if you have them. I am interested in two units or at the very least possibly one full radio and a 2nd crystal bank / change drum assembly. Or at the absolute minimum I would like two of the crystal bank / change drum assemblies. If you could share some pictures of that assembly with the cover off that would be awesome. If your radios are in pieces I would like at least some of the innards.

Please feel free to send me a PM and we can maybe move the conversation to email?

    thanks again,
    Cal

I’m still looking for these. I have had 3 guys now tell me they have them and I try to give them my money and I never hear back…it’s so weird 😉

Anyway, I’m bumping this up to see if anyone can help.

    thanks,
    Cal

    Thanks James,
That information definitely gives me more directions to try, in figuring out what all these parts are. I am replicating a movie prop so they don’t have to function but the parts are pre-70’s for sure so figuring them out and locating them is quite the challenge.

I have replicated the “rack” (that’s what I call it) with the tube sockets but I would love to figure out what the real part is / was.

    Great ideas guys. Thanks!

And thanks for the compliments on the project.

Thanks for the lead on the AN2! That one is close. The P38 is fairly close too and I like the look of it.

I wonder what the dimensions are and how difficult either of those is to find and how expensive… if I can’t find anything else. I may end up scratch building it.

    Thanks Bruce 🙂

Here is the only photo I have of the original steering wheel / yoke, if that is in fact what it is:

    http://www.mg501.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10019/misc192a.jpg

I believe it is upside down in that photo, which is why I cropped and flipped my first photo over in my first post

All I know is that it was gone when Don Bies took over the lucasfilm archives in oh.. 1989 I believe. He then fashioned a newer steering wheel to put in the landspeeder.

Here is a comparison photo. The photo on the left is a screenshot from the movie. The speeder on the right is mine, as it is right now:

I am now revisiting the chassis as it came out a little too high. We need to hack and chop at the frame a bit and lower it down 😉

Then I have a ton of weathering to do to the body along with finishing the detail bits or “greeblies” as they are called in the movie prop world.

Here is my article on my project so far:

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi Bruce,
The main part I am hunting for is the crystal bank. I would like two of those. I could potentially take a pile of parts off your hands too, in order to get a stockpile of the innards 🙂

I will shoot you a pm too.

    thanks
