    Moved for you Stu

Have a great time, it would be great to see some pics if you can manage it, I am very jealous :dev2:

I’m planning to have a complete DVD of the entire experience made. Significant extra @ 800 Euros but something I will treasure and DEFINITELY SHARE with all who are interested including members of this board. Still a year off though and lots could happen but karma willing it will be so. I’m quite fit now but will work extra hard these coming months especially on the core as I want the full meal deal during my 45 minutes.

Got music picked out and line before launch is “Light the fires and smoke the tires”.

    🙂

Any chance Moggy that you could move this thread into General Aviation? I likely posted it in this section in error. Not many bites and I’m sure there are members of the board who have either done this themselves or had friends who have.

Life is too short to put a price on something. I am not a rich man but have decided that it’s now or never and chances of winning the lottery are slim thus funds must come from somewhere and will cut corners, sell some stuff to raise the money.

It will be a hoot and when completed I’ll post the DVD of the event on this board.

    Cheers,
    Stu

    Mr Free Willy,

tis a Haguar from the Army of the Air, France. Circa Gulf War.
or at least thats what the site claims it is.

now dont we all wish the Rafale was painted in a similar desert camou?

    closest thing i could find

Of course it is….me silly. My mind must have been elsewhere as I know this aircraft. It’s just been so long since I’ve seen one and I didn’t read your post thoroughly and thought these particular aircraft were seeing action over Libya. Guess they are almost all retired now. Great ground attack craft the French used with high success in GW1.

Looks like a GBU-31 JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munition) fitted with a BLU-109 penetrator warhead? That variant of JDAM has quite a distinct shape.

    They are remarkable images!

You are definitely correct TeeJ. In the MSNBC photo you can make out the strake belt guidance mechanism. Must have been some underground assets they were after. Note the way the explosion shot upwards indicating detonation was deep underground thus little collateral damage except being burried in dirt. Also no shrapnel.

PS…somebody said in an earlier post these were dropped by a Rafale??

    good publicity for Rafale!

altho im hoping they’d repaint the Rafale in desert camo like they did in the Gulf War

Pardon my complete ignorance on this HotDog, but what aircraft is this and what are the markings?

    Thanks,
    Stu

That looks like a standard Mk 82 doesnt it?

You are right. Closer to a Mark 82 but it looks somewhat longer.

Upon closer inspection and comparison, looks like a GBU-31 JDAM.

Obviously some earth penetrating munitions being dropped on Gadhafi’s compound today. Since NATO is now in charge this would indicate the agenda has not changed namely to defacto get rid of Gadhafi.

Pic looks like a Mark 84. Upon reflection no…84 is fatter around the tail.

Talk of bringing in AC 130 and A 10s

    and
tough luck for the captured mercs..

    From BBC today:

He said the rebels were clearly benefiting from actions of the US, which has started using heavily-armed low-flying aircraft against government forces.

This could mean A-10’s (anyone have any information/pictures?). But likelihood is these are Marine Harriers.

EC-130-J “Command Solo” in operation over Tripoli and other regions which has the ability to hijack the airwaves and apply Psyops vs the usual fare on Libyan TV.

Wow….amazing he survived the blast. Any idea’s if this was Brimstone or LGB? Note Libyan tanks firing. Assume this was in Aydibayah.

Not an observation directly related to air power in this conflict, but one that has puzzled me nonetheless. I have noticed the old Libyan flag, indeed many of them, in almost every picture and video taken of the rebel faction. Most of them certainly don’t look cobbled together; in contrast, they appear professionally made. I wonder where they all came from? Ghadafi certainly must have banned them, and very brutally punished anybody possessing one. They were symbols of defiance to his rule. Seems to me like a lot of Libyans had them stashed away, though, waiting for a time just like this, in spite of the potential consequences.

Good point but assume there are some flag makers in Benghazi and they have had some time now to churn them out. Nice flag. Looks better than that rag of mad Mohammar.

    eagle 1 ,

I am very happy for Rafale, and I find it astounding that the F22 is so hamstrung by the need to operate on its own!

I heard a great line from Bill Maher on his show last night. He said this aircraft has not seen action in Afghanistan, Iraq or Libya and wonders if this $300 million dollar extravaganza is solely being kept to fight the Transformers 😀

Changing tack slightly, just after the Canadian Forces join in the operation the Harper Government loses a confidence motion and an election will happen in May. Are the Liberals in favour of Canadian involvement?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/mobile/world-us-canada-12865339

I can tell you and others that this was Liberal/NDP/Bloc Quebecois/Green Party folly to proceed with non confidence vote as the Conservatives polling percentages are highest in quite some time. Likelihood is for a Conservative majority. Election to happen in 36 days = early May. Meanwhile things like the Canadian involvement in the coalition will continue. I don’t think it would even stop if the Liberals by some miracle got in.
