My two best memories of the Vulcan are both from USAF air displays – can’t remember which, Lakenheath, Mildenhall, Upper Heyford??
The first was becoming aware of the reaction of some of the US airmen who, presumably, hadn’t seen a Vulcan before. They were, in modern parlance, gob-smacked at the way this large bomber was being thrown about the sky like a fighter. It made me real proud to be British.
Second was espying a Vulcan on static during a sudden torrential downpour we’re so used to during the summer. Large, large expanses of deserted concrete and grass as everyone had darted for cover. For about a hundred (I guess) people the Vulcan had been the nearest ‘cover’ and there was this triangular-shaped mass of humanity huddled together under their Vulcan ‘umbrella’. I went out (and got soaked) to get a photo – wish I could find it.
Of course there is also the time at Waddington when on camp with the ATC on the firing butts near the end of the runway as a Vulcan was landing ……..:o

It was not on Anglia and i dont get the history channel. Has anyone recorded it?
Only on VCR I’m afraid and haven’t a clue if or how I could transfer it 🙁

Welcome to the madhouse (sorry, The Forum) Tango Charlie.
Great news about ‘HTE.
Can see from the photo there appears to have been recent work done on the rear fuselage/fin. Good luck with the project and hope you will be able to keep us informed of progress.

….. i see no competion factor at all ….
Am I right in thinking that the BBMF do not charge for appearances of the Lancaster (although I believe there are specific insurance requirements)?
If I am right then it would surely be difficult for a privately-operated Lancaster (such as NX611) to operate as they would have to charge for appearances – unless, of course, a sponsor was found.

where’s Tom Cruise when we need him? 😀 😀 😀
Roger Smith.
You could try contacting Bill Fisher of F and H aircraft sales. He was very much involved with Reflectair
Bill Fisher was very involved with the Historic Aircraft Preservation Society but, I think, not with Reflectaire. I don’t think Bill liked John Roast.

Thanks DGH

I think John Roast passed away some years ago – may be wrong.

Hope it’s tomorrow morning – I’m working near the airport 🙂

bump – tonight
Hi Dustyone.
Just a thought – might “JH” be the initials of Mrs Harben (widow of Roy Harben company founder) who was, for a while, the major shareholder.
Interestingly Bill Gunston’s book “Diamond Flight” (about British Midlands and it’s predecessors) doesn’t include Proctor G-AHTE in the fleet lists.
Roger Smith.
Nope TT – something a bit more essential 😀

Who else spotted what’s missing? 😉

If expense is an issue why not contact your local branch of the IPMS? – I’m sure you’ll find them (International Plastic Modellors Society) with a quick Google.
I should think there is probably a local modellor who would happily take on and relish such a task – particularly associating it with a member of the aircrew.
