Looks very nice OF – any more pics?
Do you have an anticipated first flight date and what engine does it have?
Roger Smith.
PS Are you liasing with Hairyplane?
Les, may be stating the obvious but has the Museum asked the FAAM (either the information or the actual items) it is their aeroplane.

A museum at Sleap, an Air Museum???
Anyone know any more>

WV838 – there is another thread running started by XN923 “Society for the Protection of Aviation History ” – and I agree something like a National Historic Aircraft Enthusiasts Society would be a good step in the right direction.
Quote ‘As a mass of lone voices – we as enthusiasts don’t stand a chance of changing things. United… who knows?’
Makes me think of the Unison TV ad with the polar bear and the ant. Strength in numbers.

Well!
Springbok opened this thread with a tome mainly beratting the UK’s national museums – bringing up a lot of good points and laying what I should have thought was foundations for a good debate on the topic of “British Aviation Heritage”.
Of the 13 subsequent postings very little was said on the topic, instead, attacks on the record of some European countries in acft presvtn and yet more discussion about Concordes.
The national museums (or at least RAFM & IWM who seem to have been conducting an “arms race”) have been grabbing the biggest pieces of the pie from the Heritage lottery Fund leaving but a few crumbs for the other (mainly volunteer) museums.
The national museums, I suppose, cannot be blamed for fighting their own corners but look at the results:
RAFM denying access to part of it’s collection because of the closure (temporary?) of the Graham White building.
IWM “AirSpace” and RAFM “Milestones of Flight” both trying to be the National Aeronautical Collection whilst Science Museum appears to have given up.
RAFM “Cold War” exhibition – the cold war did involve the other armed services. This exhibition should have been taken on by the IWM and incorporated the RN, Army, etc.
Royal Scottish Museum displacing a lot of it’s established collection to install Concorde in it’s own hangar (ok I know I’ve brought up Concorde as well!).
So come on folks let’s debate the topic……..

Generally a good idea.
It’s aims would need to be thrashed out and would need to be mainly complementary to and not to clash with/upset existing bodies (eg BAPC). It would be different to BAPC in that BAPC is, largely, made up of “corporate” members (museums/groups/collections) – such a new organisation would I imagine be made up mainly of individuals.
One advantage of such a body could be in situations where there is a single negotiator discussing the purchase of a relic with it’s owner rather than an auction scenario because several different people are talking to him/her.
I am currently working up a letter I hope to get published in one of the mags about our National Collections and HM Government’s responsibilities to preservation of our aeronautical heritage. There appears to be an “arms race” between RAF Museum and IWM each trying to get the biggest pieces of the pie – where the baker is the Heritage Lottery Fund. A few crumbs have fallen to other museums, a small few!

Although I’m pretty sure the type is not on MAM’s acquisition list a Swift, as an early jet type, would fit in the collection of the Sir Frank Whittle Jet Heritage Centre.

[QUOTE=Consul]I recall UK displays in the 1960s when flying examples of WWII aircraft could be counted on one hand……..[QUOTE]
Very true (“When I wer a lad”) the first flying American WW2 fighter I ever saw was Charles Masefield’s P-51 in 1967 when it won the Kings Cup. To see it at all was a wondrous rarity – nowadays we are spoilt rotten to be able to see so much. Thanks Mr G, hope you at least get a ride in the Beaufighter whoever restores it.

I think there are a couple of other T7’s there, WL345 and WF784. They were going to convert 345 into an F3 at one point by fitting a different nose section. Don’t know if this has happened yet.
Had not heard of this interesting proposal. They would presumably be planning to shorten both engine nacelles fore and aft of the wing as well

A sad loss, but, as is said, “he had a good innings”. A life fully led.

Bank or Nominee 1.59 83.75So banks comprise only 1.59% of shareholders but hold 83.75% of the total allocated shares. It doesn’t say who the banks are though.
Thanks ZHR – any idea what the term “Nominee” might cover – could that include HMG?

Is this a precursor to dropping the eleventh hour of eleventh day of eleventh month?
Roger Smith.
?
There’s 2 more battles there, but I can’t see twin fins
Yep, you’re right – my imagination running away with me 🙁
Roger Smith.
Is that an AW Whitley behind – the fuselage beyond the twin fin/rudders looks too rotund though – perhaps a bristol Bombay?
Roger Smith.
Sent a letter to MAM regarding Lancaster NF920 some time back (which was an A.W built Lanc) and never got a reply to the letter.
Rich
Rich – Which Lancaster is NF920? I didn’t know there were any AWA-built examples left.
