I don’t have cable or satellite so not familiar with what Discovery Wings provide.
However a weekly series on aircraft manufacturers (present and past) would run for a couple of years
Roger Smith.
The answer is to take some photos and post them rather than whinge that others havent done so.
Ouch!
Roger Smith.
Thanks Dave, nice collection of pics – nice collection of aeroplanes as well!
Are you involved at MoTaT? Do you know whether Malcolm Frazier (or Frazer) is still around? I knew him when he was Chief Engineer at Shuttleworth in the 1960’s and he left there and emigrated to work for MoTaT.
I guess he would be in his seventies/eighties now.

[QUOTE=dhfan]I think hinged canopies are relatively unusual.QUOTE]
F-104 canopy hinges and is accessed from starboard

Probably an outdoor proms concert – look in your local paper a few nights back and see if there was an advert for one?

It would need to be somewhere within range of Martin Baker so one of their Meteors could formate – wow.
Roger Smith.
Kev,
A further thought about G-ACRV – you could contact the D.H. Moth Club. If Stuart McKay cant provide an answer I’m sure they would put a letter/appeal for info in their excellent member’s magazine.

AWA line up at Cosford
Mention of the Argosy going under cover prompts my list of a line up I would like to see at Cosford:
Hawker Hart
Avro Lincoln
AW Meteor NF 14
AW Argosy
All built by Armstrong Whitworth.

Exactly! It just shows this is a load of bolony!

The point is that the aircraft was (virtually) donated by B.Ae. who set the condition.
B.Ae. do not want to upset a past (and maybe future) customer and M.A.M. do not want to upset B.Ae.
However things do change and it would be worth asking the question.
Roger Smith.
Is the VAC event at Turweston open to the public. I thought I remembered that previous VAC events were for members only and visitors were turned away. Can someone clarify??

Anyone building a Fox Moth, DHC-83C
Am in contact with a guy re-building a DH 83 Fox Moth.

From Air Britain’s Impressment Logs
“G-ACRV AV986 12.5.40. Marshall’s Flying Services Ltd. Delivered to No. 110 (AAC) on the 17th and was received by No. 8 A.A.C.U. from Ringway on 27.5.40. After flying a passenger to Ringway on 4.6.40 G-ACRV ground-looped on landing there and was conveyed to D.H. for repair on the 14th. Delivered to No 48 M.U. on 25.8.40 and was released to No 1 F.P.P. as AV986 on December 18th. AV986 crashed at Rushup Edge near Chapel-en-le-Frith while taking off after a F/L there 30.8.41 SOC at D.H. on 21.9.41 as Cat E1.”
Re aircraft firms in Nottingham I would think the relatively recent Vol. 4 of “Brtish Built Aircraft – Central & Eastern England” by Ron Smith would be a good starting point (temporarily mislaid my copy)

I tell my wife, now and again, that if I suddenly drop off the perch some of my “collection” is valuable so sell it carefully (Jack Bruce’s British Aeroplanes 1914-18 go for over £100 these days). Alternatively if I live to a ripe old age I may have to (very reluctantly) sell some/all of it off to supplement the state pension.
The loss of archival material when people die has been on my mind for a long time. When I was a Museum Trustee I was pushing to formulate a letter/leaflet that might be given to likely “candidates” encouraging them, in a very careful and discreet way, to make sure photos, log-books, etc. were not thrown away when they passed on. A very difficult topic. However my time as a Trustee came to an end and I don’t think the idea was proceeded with.

Apparently, people can get offended if the flag is showing or the content of the flag……etc etc…….or something along those lines.
Kev
JAGx204 gave the explanation in April on a thread “Midland Air Museum Photos” that the R.Saudi A.F. flag contains a passage from the Koran and exclusion was part of the acquisition deal with B.Ae.
Anyway why stick RAF roundels on an aircraft that never saw service with the RAF? It’s presence in original (if slightly incomplete) markings is testament to the fact we used to have a great aircraft industry that earned lots of money exporting aircraft.
Roger Smith.
BTW the way Les, I’m glad I wasn’t stood under that tower when you were up it…lol
