I was fortunate to catch a quick glimpse of a VC-10 running down the centreline of runway 05 at Coventry airport on Friday (26th August) at 12.15pm before it disappeared into the murk. I believe it was trying to get into Bruntingthorpe but visibility wasn’t adequate there and I’m told it made a second pass at Coventry a little later.

I had never expected to see another one in the air again.

Always liked the Tiger – and the Cougar – so lets see your photos at Pensacola (would love to visit there one day myself).

How does the name Tiger sit in with Tigercat?? and where does the Agcat come/fit in the collection of cat names??

Seeing mention of Hendon’s “ships” some posts back reminds me of my suggestion in the thread discussing the Goodwin Sands Do.17.

I suggested a cooperative venture with SEA LiFE with a large tank that could be viewed on several levels. Sand and the recovered Dornier on the bottom with North Sea fish above.

There could, in addition, be a top level with a rubber dinghy and the two launches (along with, perhaps, the Supermarine Seagull?) floating on top.

The link in post 1 contains a photo of two outer wings The text points out that they are not off V.2 (that the centre section is from) but the staff hope to be able to join the three sections together.

I wonder what injuries Mr Padfield sustained in his rescue attempt. Normally aircrash = fire = burn injuries but a Horsa wouldn’t catch fire on crashing would it?

I thought the Americans didn’t use the word Aerodrome for landing grounds because Samuel Langley pinched it first 😀

I spoke to John’s son Jan a few weeks ago who put me on to a local chap Peter Jones.

Peter tells me that he and the VMARS (Vintage & Military Amatuer Radio Society) are disposing of John’s collection in accordance with his wishes. They have only cleared his house and garage so far – there’s lots more to go. As John was also a radio ‘ham’ there is a lot of non aviation radio stuff as well. There is to be a VMARS members only auction tomorrow and what’s left from that will be offered at the Princethorpe event on Sunday (see below). VMARS website: http://www.vmars.org.uk/

    21 AUGUST RUGBY (PRINCETHORPE) ANNUAL RADIO RALLY – Princethorpe College, Princethorpe, Rugby CV23 9PX (SP395710). OT 10am – 4pm, £2, CP, TI, C. Contact Tony, 07759 684 411, rallyrugbyats.co.uk

Early 1970’s the RAFMuseum sent loads of stuff to a Bedfordshire scrapyard (Shefford??) that included a section of Stirling fuselage about that length. Wish I could find the colourslide I took of it.

I know it’s not at Staverton, but will the Gamecock be viewable that day at the other premises?
