Great to hear – what happened to the aspirations to become an international airport? 😉

I have this strange memory that when the news of the proposed Mystery Jet was released we preservationists were concerned that all the T.11s would be converted and there wouldn’t be any T.11s left!!
At least I think that’s what I remember…..

Will a box of Hobgoblin do the trick?
😉
I’ll see your box of Hobgoblin and raise it to a crate of Old Peculiar :D:D:D

Mark, if I am correct your calculations are based on staff numbers to visitor numbers? Surely the numbers of building and facilities should be taken into account also – for example one very large building might need less staff to run than five smaller buildings of an equal area.

…..I wonder if I can get away with towing one down the M6 to Speke? :diablo: Jon
You want a big barge to float it around the coast :D:D:D

Peter – going slightly off-topic, been dying to ask about the Falcon.
I think you said last year you might ‘rest’ her for a while – perhaps flying her to Sweden for a rest period. I see she is still at OW is she likely to be flying this year?
Roger Smith.
apparently there’s been one for sale in the UK for a number of years with no interest shown. I have no further details….
I think that’s Bob Batt’s that is/was a flyer. I guess a big difference in price between a static and a flyer.

……. Free museums? That might well come to an end. Bruce
I came up with the phrase “education through entertainment” 20-odd years ago whilst discussing the future path of Midland A.M. so I am firmly in the camp of those who recognise that visitors (adults and children) primarily need to have enjoyed their visit and you hope that they will go away having learned something.
My point here is that on one side a museum is a place of learning and on the other a place of entertainment – the nearer you are to the latter (ie the more ‘family groups’ are just going for ‘a cheap day out’) the more jusification for levying an entry charge.

I can count the number of times I have visited the RAFM since it opened 35 years ago on the fingers of one hand – the last time about five years ago. I always remember my impression after my first visit shortly after opening was that the place was a mix of a cathedral(or rather holy shrine) and a hospital – everything was so out of reach and clinical.
Like most of the other posters I, too, am disappointed at the closure of the upper galleries and the lack of access to the Graham White Hangar.
In 75 posts I think Keith Gaff is the ONLY voice opposing the majority opinion but I’m glad he’s there to provide a debate and hope he’s not put off from returning.
With regard to “the buck stops here” and Dr. Fopp – does it? Surely the ultimate responsibility (short of the Defence Minister) lies with the Board of Trustee’s who, presumably, appointed Dr. Fopp and have the power to remove him.
So what we want is
1) a list of the Trustees of the RAFM
2) a list of ‘charges’ – items/areas the RAFM has failed/is failing in.

…………….and the Sun has better pix :D:D:D:D:D
Thought we were discussing Hawkers, not Bristols :D:D
Sorry, couldn’t resist that

…….If two fairly talented design teams are striving to come up with a design that pushes the known boundaries of aerodynamics and technology, then surely they will both arrive at a basically similar design. ……
You mean like the Vulcan and Victor :D:D:D

Wonder what made RAF Finningley Collection/RAFMuseum/Manchester Museum decide to paint/retain the red scheme?

Farnborough 1953.
One or you Roger…and no you can’t borrow the slide. 😉

I Will, however, try and contribute with some of the black & white images I HAVE got. (later)

Remainder of production look to be as VX790.Richard
Thanks – that’s enlightening 🙂

Bruggen 130, do you have a year for that shot at Finningley – it appears to be still undercarraige-less.
