I found out the other day that ‘Target for Tonight’ was made by Squadron Leader Henry Illife-couzens-who was C.O. of 19 squadron when they got the first Spitfires
So as long as there’s the smallest part involved it will be classed as original?-my brain hurts!
Adolf Busemann is credited with the idea-apparently did a talk about this in about 1936-but everyone ignored him!
My question would be-how can the CAA believe that any of those scrapyard parts have been incorporated into the ‘restoration?’ -if they were, they’d never let it fly
Caught a very good documentary series occasionally with Bruce Dickinson -cant remember what it was called, tho-falling that, how about ‘The X (plane) Factor!’
No, but i’d quite like to know which Tigercat it is!
What ever happened to the Hind (?) remains in a scrapyard in Afghanistan that were pictured a couple of years ago?
– The remains of 15 Hinds (6 of which are identifiable airframes) were imported into the UK by a Mr Paul Chriswick
at the end of 2006 – he intends to keep L7191 (a Hind Trainer)
I would love to see a ‘behind the scenes’ documentary about Duxford and The Shuttleworth Collection-especially if they could get the cooperation of Historic Flying and The Aircraft Restoration Company at Duxford
2???
Gr8 project!-does anyone remember that bloke who used to turn up at Old Warden with a range of running model engines?-i would guess he’s no longer with us
I don’t suppose there’s anything about spitfire restoration that’s cheap!-except the air in the tyres maybe!-thanks again for the info, Mark-and thanks Mackeral, too!!-without whom, etc, etc!!
Thanks, Mark!-i think it must’ve been before anyone was making new carry-through spars-is that a casting?
I read a (good!) few years ago that if the wing pick up bolt holes (i’m guessing what they’re called!) are out of round at all then restoration to flight is impossible-is this the case (or was it ever??) -and is there a solution these days?
Be nice to see an (almost) full set of Hawker biplanes at OW (Demon, Hind, the 2 Nimrods, and Guy Blacks’ Fury) along with the return of the Comet-and the FW-190 at Duxford
I did read some time ago that paul allen is having a CASA 2-111 converted to run on Jumos-so hopefully it wont be long now
