    Hi TT,

A photo of Cessna 337 s/n CC651 would be nice.

Incidentally, I’ve just started to collect information for a book on the Cessna O-2/337 in military service, and would appreciate any information on the SLAF’s six 337s.

Most likely gone forever is the Walrus at Trincomalee (?), mentioned in the 1969 edition of Leslie Hunt’s ‘Veteran and Vintage Aircraft’. Caution was advised, as the Walrus was reportedly snake-infested!

    Hairyplane,

Saab used Cierva C.30A SE-AZB for various unspecified trials during the early 1960s in connection with a helicopter project. If you think it may have some relevance to your project, drop me a line, and I’ll see what I can find.

Meanwhile, ever seen a C.30A on skis? http://www.avrosys.nu/aircraft/Mod_arme/CiervaSE-AEA.htm

    A few links that might be of some interest;

Wasn’t the Cierva C.30 recently flown at Cuatro Vientos in Spain a replica, although incorporating some original parts? I seem to recall that the team involved in that project initially tried to obtain a preserved C.30, but failed. I believe that she is now grounded. However, the Museo del Aire would most likely be able to contibute with technical advise on your project.

Incidentally, the last operational Cierva C.30 (aka Avro Rota) – as far as I know – was SE-AZB, which is now preserved at Hendon.

But, could this one be made available? http://www.fantasyofflight.com/aircraftpages/autogyro.htm

Yesterday, 16 January, AJSF 37 Viggen Fv 37974 took-off from Wing F 17 for delivery to ‘Flugausstellung Leo Junior’ at Hermeskeil, Germany. No word on the Newark-bound one yet.

Incidentally, two Sk 37s were delivered to French Museums last autumn, Fv 37811 to Montélimar on 12 September and Fv 37808 to Musée de l’Air on 17 October. One JA 37, Fv 37429, was delivered to an Aviation Museum in Tartu, Estonia, on 27 September 2004, while Museo del Aire at Cuatro Vientos received Fv 37074 on 9 November 1999.

With the Aviodrome example, Fv 37901 and Fv 37918 bound for Newark, that makes seven Viggens on permanent loan to European museums. So, it would appear that we Swedes are a generous lot! 😀

The pair of Messerschmitt Bf 108s in ‘The Longest Day’ were really Nord 1002s, ie the French Bf 108-clone. Don’t know which ones, though.

Incidentally, I believe that the sole Luftwaffe strafing attack on D-Day was performed by two FW 190s from JG 26, flown by Josef Priller and his ‘rottenflieger Wodarzcyk. Does anyone have more details on this?

It’s Fv 37918. She will be flown to RAF Cranwell sometime between the 11 and 20 January for preservation at the Newark Air Museum.

Jogging my memory a bit, details on the filming of ‘Sole Survivor’ can be found in; Farmer, James H. Broken Wings: Hollywood’s Air Crashes. Missoula, Mont.: Pictorial Histories Publishing Company, 1984.

And a link to the Royal Danish AF Museum, unfortunately only in Danish, which is due to open on 12 September 2006. A Firefly makes an appearance in the model hangar! http://www.flymuseum.dk/flyvevaabensmuseum.php

A Firefly T.T. Mk 1 is indeed listed by the Stauning Museum. She is listed as a ‘restoration project’ and is due to appear in 2007. A link to the Museum’s collection can be found here: http://www.flymuseum.dk/fly/alle_fly.php

As for SE-CAW travelling to Denmark, she’s the only Firefly left in Sweden and will presumably remain at the Flygvapenmuseum.

The Danish Firefly is most likely one of the former Ethiopian ones.

Wasn’t the Berlin Fokker D VII obtained from Switzerland sometime in the early 1930s?

From memory, some information on this particular D VII can be found in the book mentioned below.
