Most of the Airwing are donated to them by Brazil who builds them. The ships are River class, the biggest being the two Haipo’s which were built in Italy They have a cargo ship which serves a two fold mission, to produce revenue and to train cadets. The newest boats is the Itaipo which weighs in at 220Tons. She has a 40mm main gun, 6 machine guns (.50 Cal) and a 81mm mortar as well as a helicopter deck. The Nanawa boats are minesweepers that were built in the 30’s for Argentina and have four 40mm guns on them and displace 450Tons. The Humaita Class was also built in the 30’s and are armed with four 4.7in (120mm) guns with a total displacement of 63Tons.
All up, their service has about 2000 personel including Coast guard and River Guard with four bases of operation; Asuncion (H.Q), Bahio, Negra and Ciudad Deo Este.
Laos is also in the same boat, pardon the pun. Though there is not much known about them, they have 46 river patrol boats for the Mekong delta and they are thought to have been supplied by the USSR during the early 80’s Personel is numbered at 600
Switzerland also has a navy, they have 11 Glass Reinforced Plastic “Patrouillenboot 80’s” known locally as the “Aquarius class”. They patrol the three lakes of the country and are armed with a heavy machine gun.
On to Africa as per your request and there really isn’t much here despite what you may think, most of the river forces are governed by the army’s of their respective countries but there are a couple of exceptions.
Mali has a force of 50 people on 5 patrol boats, two of which are Yugoslave built boats that came from Lybia, they patrol the Niger River from various bases (mostly unsupported) and headways.
The other example here is Malawi, who’s Marine Police patrol the Nyasa River, they have 400 people serving Chikala which is a 36m long French SFCN design armed with light machine guns. P702 is a 4Ton Fairey Marine “Spear” class boat and Namacurra is a boat that was supplied by South Africa, they also have two launches.
