I know Australia is interested in this vechiule, they would help fill a gap in our fighting forces when we get the new LHD’s
Australia uses American Mk-48’s and Mk-46’s on the Helos, though the Seakings gave up their ASW role a long time ago and the new Super Seasprites won’t carry torps unless abosolutly neccessary.
Here you go mate, this is has the full details in it
Discussion on SIA about the options
There’s not reeally that much of a difference, except in the nose performance, if they are on the bow, then the nose will rise slightly quicker, but for the most part, with Subs, it really doesn’t make a difference since ballast is the work horse of diving and submerging.
What is more interesting is the difference between Ballast control on Western Subs and ballast on Russian subs, as they both have different ways of controlling it, the Western way is more complex. Look it up, i have it in a book somewhere about here, should be on the net too!
Not to sure about Chinese types, but since most of their subs have derived from Russian, it stands to reason that they’d use the Russain ballast controls.
It’s a well known conclussion down here that the Izar ship has won this comp and that this is just a formality, their ship is bigger and better suited to the needs that we intend to put them through.
What the government is really asking the Spanish is; if we buy this ship design and the F-100’s can we get a cheaper price? The Spanish are looking into it.
Having the chunk taken out of the forward tawil plane like that would have shot the trim characteristics to hell, but I’ve seen pics of B-17’s during WWII that are far worse than this, I remember one where the entire midsection was ripped open, from top to bottom but held one to make a landing.
IIRC this ship is supposed to be bigger that GG right? Wonder if there is going to be another order of Harriers before the F-35B’s actually start to be released for sale?
Same here, DCN would know what they are doing.
So are there any pics of what these ships are finally going to look like?
I thought the Chilian’s didn’t buy the dutch ships, or am I talking about something else again?
Damd man where can I buy one?
Great info posted in that site, have saved it to my file. I still think the other design should have won for the CVF.
It’s not just the US that would help us out, the UK still have soverign rights over us and thus if we were attacked, they would have to help in our defence (why not we’ve helped her out how many times?)
Besides we had treaties with other nations in our region that support us, Singapore and Japan just to name two, and if you ask me, I’d hate to get on the wrong side of those two 😉
Man those are some sad pics there, especially that last one, reminds me of what happened to USS Cabot/ SNS Dedalo.
I remember that group that wanted to save her for a museum, they approached Australian’s (especially ex-navy people) to chip in to buy her. They just couldn’t get enough money nor could they get a place to keep her, the British government said no to basing her in the UK. Australian government said they didn’t have a place to put her but offered to sink her for a dive wreck.
India out bid China (which I found interesting) and we all know why China wanted her 😉
I don`t think australia need a new carrier, we have been strong enough to defeat any country around us. Just do not follow usa on every thing.
Gatling, mate we have been strong, up untill the government gave the Little War Canoe’s the flick (aka DDG’s). with those we had a fighting force, but no all we got is a joke! Still it should be interesting to see how the Fagboats (FFG’s) turn out after this little experiment of ading a VLS in front of the Mk-13.
As for Carriers and following the US, I can’t see how we’d be following the US by getting these two ships? They are of a totally different class to any thing the USN has, Not even the Wasp or Tarawa Classes are down rated enough to be compared to these small ships. The best comparrison would be that of the RTN Chakri Nareubet, and even that is smaller than the Spanish PdA which was modeled on an ABORTIVE US concept. So if we follow the US it’s only by a fourth step (modeled on the “seven steps to fame” role).
