As for new combos there is only really one thing I’d really like to have seen, and that was the Huey Fortress. it was a penetrating gunship that had 12 remote turrets with mini guns. If anyone can find the specs for it could they please post it, it was printed in AFM back in 1991 or there abouts

Well this makes sence, I’ve looked over the specs and the Airbus deal is far better, they are offering a lager plane with with a lighter empty weight, more cargo/fuel and most of all, more power in the engines.

The RAAF is also looking at these as a replacement for their B707’s and to tell the truth, I hope they get the A-330’s they really are a good plane. Sadly, reality will hit in and logistically we’ll get the B-767’s since they have similar parts to the Wedgetail and the current Qantas fleet who do the deep maintainence on all the RAAF planes.

I think the real question is, who could afford such a deal that would see both planes in service?

Tell me, besides India and China, who these days has in increrase in their defence budget to allow such planes in operation at the same time? No one really springs to mind, even the mighty US can’t afford their over stretched military anymore. Defence cuts are so severe these days that the once glorius times of having up to 7 different types in service all for the same or similar jobs, are very much a thing of the past!

Just off topic a little: Does anyone know of the JAS-40? Someone mentioned it to me elsewhere. I’ve never heard of it and I don’t think it even exists, it doesn’t even conform to any FMV/ Flygvapen designation series at all.

What I fail to understand is why it’s taking so long to actually get up there, we can send all the probes we want, why not send people?

We have our own Comedian writer down here (Carlo Kopp), what he’s a doctor in I don’t know but it’s got nothing to do with defence that’s for sure.

He’s claiming that the F-35 is the wonder bug and will be good for Australia- even to replace the F-111. He fails to see the major differences in a few areas and is nothing more than a properganda machine for current US thinking!
